This story is like a rubber stamp of approval of a Press Release from Blake.
You failed to mention that only last week the Department of Health of Florida had a meeting to reduce the number of Trauma Centers in Florida. Blake because of its remote location on a 2 lane road and that it is only a small Level 2 Trauma center is slated to be closed.
Blake also lost in a court fight to stay open because the same Dept of Health gave Blake permission to open acting against Rules the State had already established for Trauma Centers.
You story failed to mention that Blake is located in a small retirement center on the remote West side of town. This trauma center is to serve 3 counties not just little Bradenton. The citizens of Sarasota County and DeSota Counties also need to count on a more central location.
In fact, by the time it takes to drive from South Sarasota to Blake you could have flown to a more experienced Trauma Center in St. Pete.
Over the last year according to the Dept of Health office located on Taimaimi Trail in Sarasota, Blake is now the number one Death Center, more people die at Blake than other larger Hospitals like Manatee Hospital or Sarasota Hospital.
This Death rate could be from the new Drs on staff or the lengthy drive it takes to Drive down busy roads like Cortez and 41 to get to Blake which is located on a small 2 lane road.
A more advanced Level 1 Trauma center is needed for the area which should be more central located near major highways and City Centers.
The old saying “when minutes count” have become sour to those that have lost family or loved ones due to the opening of this Trauma Center.
Please write the Dept of Health and ask that Lakewood ranch Hospital or Sarasota Hospital become the 3 County Trauma. Not this out of the way rinky dink Blake.
