The same thing is happening in Minerva to a lesser degree. Rocky's 3 in Minerva is owned by the same guy as the Rocky's in Waynesburg and Malvern. However, Minerva's is always higher than the other two. I think you can figure out why.

I have come to realize that the price of gasoline and groceries is set according to the distance from the nearest establishment that is willing to compete. Minerva and Carrollton establishments are not about to compete with each other, and they know they are far enough away from the places with lower prices which makes it a hassle to drive there. Therefore, they can set whatever price they want and know that the people will pay it. What a shame.

Great point on the groceries stories. I never thought of it that way.

"It was explained to the operator who answered that Carrollton is located in the middle of the other stores in the tri-county regional area. Canton, New Philadelphia and Steubenville are all located about 40 minutes from Carrollton." This is a bunch of bull pucky. The nearest speedway is less than 12 miles away AND is 20-30 cents less most days. I understand that it is on the edge of stark county, however it is still less than 40 minutes!!

That is true about groceries. Thornes slapped on the name "market place" and jacked up their prices. Though I'm sure the "market place" had nothing to do with the title: Dollar General Market.....

Thornes has has carried their other two stores in Alliance on the backs of the people in Carrollton. Go shop in their stores in Alliance and you will find their prices are a lot lower, way lower. Just another way the people on Carroll County are getting screwed.
