Cost of gas skyrockets
Tom Glen made history Tuesday on Richmond's north side and he couldn't have been more disappointed.

Today in southern Kentucky gas was $3.09 then back in Connersville hours later it was $3.37??
WHY???? What is the difference between Indiana and Kentucky?? |

yeah i know I was in dayton over easter weekend and when I left town on friday gas was like 3.47, i got to dayton and everywhere in town was 3.06. Even richmond is slightly cheaper than gas here in town. I dont understand how it can flutuate that much from city to city. I personally think it is time that the so called republican mitch daniels does something about gas in this state, lower the tax on it, or maybe even put a price cap or something. You would be surprised how much of the gas price is controlled by the individual gas station owners.

Do you people really care what gas costs outside of Connersville? If you can afford to go to Richmond and Dayton to check prices, you shouldn't be concerned at all.

PLEASE, sincerely tell me you are kidding!!! Whether we go out of town or not, we ALL need to be concerned with the gouging that's going on! Have you ever noticed that they take this HUGE jump, and then when it drops just a little bit, we are all saying "did you see what gas is DOWN to?" They do that on purpose so we all will be HAPPY to pay for $3 gas!(or whatever inflated price they have targeted.) One of the oil companies had a PROFIT of over $40 BILLION for ONE quarter! Then prices continue to rise at a record pace...jeesh... |

the grammar school economics is charming but not terribly relevent to the real world. the way to lower the price of oil is to consume less of it. sorry for the bad news. the long term answer is probably bio fuels and/or hydrogen. corn based ethanol is definately not the answer merely political feel good baloney |

Why do we have to attempt to discredit someone's intelligence when we don't agree?
What I stated is NOT grammar school economics...just plain and simple facts. I agree that we need to develop and USE alternatives, but in the meantime, do NOT try to convince me that what I said isn't true. ANYTIME a company can PROFIT the equivalent of $160 BILLION a year and continue to gouge their customers, there is a serious GREED problem. Did you hear about the stations in Indy who had to refund customers because of gouging? Why don't we have the LARGE oil companies refund some of that $40 billion gouge profit based on avg. miles and number of vehicles per household? Because of the lack of competitive alternatives, they are "practically" a monopoly...grrrrrrr |

I am not kidding!! You can get an ulcer fretting over oil companies who make $40 BILLION for ONE quarter, but as for me, I'm gonna laugh when I get my $10 worth of gas, grab a cheeseburger and go home and watch the 'Travel Channel'. Humanity is going to suck this planet dry of all it's natural resources just like it has all the decency, morality and fairness that ever was. Now, the rising costs of bicycles, does concern me a bit right now! |

2 I agree that we are a wasteful nation and that things need to change, but in the meantime, should we be putting up with conrol people cheating us of our hard earned dollars, so that $40 billion profit can grow? I wouldn't have a problem with that kind of profit IF they were seeking alternative ideas or new refineries or whatever is needed. But the reason they can call that money "profit" is because it is what's left after ALL of the expenses are calculated. I don't laugh when I feel cheated. But I also don't try to make others feel inferior with sarcastic remarks. |

We all need to be concerned about the price of gas, it effects us all. Food is going up, mail will go up and everything else we need will go up. I know everyone must make a profit, BUT that is too much.

Thank you, 1 of five, you are soooooooo right!!!
I'm not opposed to companies or individuals making a profit...but the way they are taking advantage does drive up prices on everything else we deal with...including the cheeseburger that Connersvillian is going to pick up! To have a reasonable or even a 'healthy' profit is not out of line....but when it becomes exorbitant at the expense of people who have very limited alternatives, it gives the feel of being monopolized and controlled. |

This weeks DOE average on diesel was $4.00 per gallon. According to the DOT my drivers can drive 500 miles per day. Most trucks get around 5 miles per gallon. That costs me about $400. per day. Try paying that for 5 or more trucks per day! If something doesn't happen soon all independent trucking will shutdown. Then JB Hunt and large trucking will be able to charge whatever freight rates they wish, and we will all foot the bill. It will be added to everything. Think of all the things you have or use daily, did a truck bring them to you or did you go get them yourself. I'm holding my head above the water but feel myself circling the bowl.

the only way to reduce the price is to reduce demand. period. if you feel you are being cheated at a certain price, dont buy at that price. if you are now going to say you _need_ the gas, i guess you weren't cheated. also since $40 billion is gouging, what is the maximum amount of money a company is allowed to make? if its such the money maker you claim do you invest in oil companies? if not why not? |
I'm not sure why I'm responding to you. Because I feel the "need" to buy gas, I'n not being cheated? Does anyone else feel like this is a "weird" statement (for lack of a better word). That's what a monopoly is! Someone who takes advantage of "no other feasible alternative" situations for HUGE financial gain or control. One way to reduce that demand is to come up with viable alternatives...that may happen in the future, but in the meantime, we are being controlled and manipulated...AND taken advantage of. Our business is totally dependent on diesel fuel... The reason we are not invested in oil companies? NO MONEY! |
