Easy solution to all of this... make a county wide police force then there is no problems. People lets come into some reality and admite that times have changed and townships and boros need to swallow their pride and make a conty police force. Everyone gets the ploce force they need and want and need.
They are called the state cops. The most professional and well trained police force in the county and I am glad I live in their area. Low taxes and good cops - perfect.

Why are we treating our police force like children? They went through the police academy for a reason. They have to deal with these idiots on the street everyday. They have permission to assist one department. What if an officer is calling for backup somewhere else? Tell me why another officer from EARP that is available to help is still not allowed to go help them? Oh, because they will lose their job to help another officer? Are you kidding me?

A few weeks ago on a sunday afternoon I went through New Oxford Boro and saw a EARP car and Reading Township alomg with East Berlin Boro car. Seems like they get back up from more then Conewago Township.I did a little research and saw something about municipal police officers act, didn't totally understand it but don't officers ahve to respond if requested?

Keep in mind folks. Hanover and Penn Twp. officers are not allowed to go outside their jurisdiction. Hmmmmm wonder why??? Maybe they did the research and are concerned about the liability as well. This has nothing to do with officer safety. Certain officers on EARP choose to conduct themselves like spoiled 2 year olds. When that happens the Commission is forced to treat them like children and apply rules. Thus the Commission is hated just like a parent. From day 1 this has been about officer morale. Look at the meeting minutes. Risking a multi million dollar lawsuit because some officers cannot roam the county freely is absurd. I am sure most of you go to work everyday. How many of your employers allow you to leave your buildings and go somewhere else daily because you are feeling a little blue and need to get your feelings massaged???

Why are EARP police officers not allowed to carry tasers? I believe it is because the police commission says that tasers are a liability. Therefore, a police officer is left with a can of mace and a gun. I guess they would rather be facing a lawsuit if an officer has to shoot someone rather than use a taser to difuse a situation. Do some research and you will see how many lawsuits have been brought against EARP PD, since the regional department started. I believe it is 0!!!!!!

If the police commission would have done a background check on the current Police Chief or ask the officers that have been there for numerous years they would have found out that he failed to assist officers of Eastern Adams in the past because he was too busy speaking to young females at the old Movie Gallery. There would not be a morale problem that everyone is speaking about at the police department if the chief would grow a backbone, instead of trying to discipline officers for doing their job. I believe every morning, when Chief Then's feet hit the floor he wonders who he can mess with when he gets to work that day.
