Before the merge, in my last year I made $80,000 on a $9,000 route average. Percentages vary slightly depending on the area, but it generally ran around 17%. The new contract knocks that down to around 15 with C-store routes a little higher. While there are many problems with S-L it's a better deal than Bimbo or Flowers routes in my area. They work on about 12%. Sad to say, but this industry is ceasing to be a good opportunity for anybody.

I HONESTLY WANTED A FLOWERS ROUTE BAD... THE WAREHOUSE IS JUST AS CLOSE AS SNYDERS IS FOR ME. A COMPANY DRIVER FOR A MAJOR SNACK COMPANY GOT THE FLOWERS ROUTE AND LASTED ABOUT 4 MONTHS THEN GOT OUT OF IT. HE SAID HE HAD NO LIFE AT ALL WITH THE HOURS HE WAS WORKING AND THE TIME HE HAD TO WAKE UP. I KNOW FOR A FACT I WAS NEXT IN LINE BEFORE HIM BECAUSE THE 1ST DAY I WAS BACK WITH SNYDERS I SAW THE DM IN 1 OF MY WALMARTS AND HE SAID THE ORIGINAL PERSON WHO TOOK IT WAS WALKING AWAY AND ASKED ME RIGHT THEN IF I WANTED IT WHICH I HONESTLY DID BUT I JUST SIGNED ON WITH SNYDERS. WELL IT ENDED UP BEING A GOOD CHOICE BECAUSE 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLE WALKED AWAY FROM IT SO IM GLAD I DODGED THAT. I NEVER DID BREAD BUT I WOULD THINK ITS A WHOLE DIFFERENT ANIMAL. I UNDERSTAND PEOPLE BEING UPSET ABOUT THIER ROUTES BUT SOME PEOPLE COME INTO THIS WHO WERE AUTO TECHS, FACTORY WORKERS, MAIL CARRIERS AND ON AND ON, YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT TIME, ALOT OF TIME TO GET USED TO ORDERING AND MANAGING YOUR INVENTORY THEN YOU START TO SEE THE FRUIT OF YOUR LABOR. A BIG THING WE HAVE GOING FOR US IS WE'RE IN NC !! THIS IS LANCE COUNTRY HERE AND WE SELL A TON OF IT. WE JUST GOT IN FROM PACKING OUR 4X4'S OUT AT OUR 2 WALMARTS. PUT UP 17 CASES BETWEEN THE SHELF AND THE 4X4 IN ONE, AND 15 CASES IN THE OTHER, THATS NOT INCLUDING SNYDERS AND WISE. THATS ABOUT $1500.00 WORTH OF PRODUCT WE PUT UP TODAY SINCE FRIDAY !! I HONESTLY HOPE IT GETS BETTER FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT HAPPY.

WELL AGREE TO DISAGREE. WE WERE TAUGHT IN NJ THAT TRENTON WAS,IT WONT BE GOOD FOR TOURISM BECAUSE THE CITY SLOGAN"TRENTON MAKES THE WORLD TAKES" IS JUST A SIGN ON A BRIDGE NOW. ITS A SHAME WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CITY IT WAS AND WHAT AN ABSOLUTE CRAP HOLE IT IS NOW .I SAW A PROGRAM ON THE REVOLUTION IN THE SPRING THAT SAID THE SAME AS I DID ABOUT WASHINGTON DECLARING IT THE 1ST CAPITOL. IT WAS NEEDED FOR POLITICAL REASONS SO I SUPPOSE IM PARTIAL TO NJ SINCE I SPENT THE FIRST 46 YEARS OF MY LIFE THERE THEN HAD SENSE ENOUGH TO GET THE HELL OUT....LOVE IT DOWN IN NC !!!

AMBMAK, I was a breadman from 1975-2004. Believe me when I tell you bread is 10 times harder than chips. Short codes, daily stales, very low % private label, pullups mandatory on Wed and Sun, etc. You made the right decision. The only bread company I would recommend right now is Pepperidge. 20% commission, limited product line, no private label and at least down here, minimal management pressure.

Since I am leaving because of being ripped off by SL I will leave this gift with u guys. Ever wonder why u pay promo fees on a partner brands even though SL is given full promo credit from the partner brand? I remember being told by a zone manager that all partner brands pay the full promo fees of the sell items. So we are paying promo fees on partner but SL is recovering the full promo costs from the partner. Just another illegal practice of SL.

Had a route, gave it up before I signed the contracts. I actually took 2 months of paper work to a CPA that does the accounting for a pet/farm route and also does for a couple of bread routes. He told me to run, it was a total joke. Also spent the money to have the contract reviewed by a lawyer, he pretty much said I would not advise you or anyone else to sign this.
So glad I got out. Only that that worked out for me is bought the truck right, sold it to a fed ex operator and made $2500 on it.

Hey guys/gals, I'm new to this forum and i have been reading all the comments and posts about Snyder Lance. I too have a rather large balance due (about $10,500) and I had to quit the job/route because I too was struggling with paying off the previous weeks order and fought tooth and nail to try and get a check every week, which turned into once every 6 weeks. This place sure is a joke, from the warehouse people al the way to the "previous owners" now being a bank that finances half of these routes to suckers like me i.e. MAW Associates. Now my biggest problem is I dont know what to do. I know I cant afford to pay these people the balance i owe, but the definately lied to me about what the route did a week. I was told it was a avg weekly of $7300 and I was lucky to avg $5200 a week. Please if anyone else has had this same problem as me, that had to quit and is now soon to be sued, please point me in the right direction to go. Bankruptcy ? I dont know, i havent spoke with a lawyer yet as they too r expensive. Im sure if i try to file bankruptcy. these leeches will still file and win the case for their $$. But honestly this route was def no doing, nor could it ever do $7300 a week. I have tons of paperwork filed here at home and it can b proof of what i did a week. I really whole heartitly pu my all into this business. And it was a failure. A long 2 yrs of being broke, past due bills coming in, horrible scars on my credit report now, all the while with very litte to no $$ coming in from the business. I barely made any actual checks from S-L and now they want $10,000 ? I can prove what cash/checks I received from the route and show it didnt do $7300 wk and then subtract the $10K they say I owe... theyre nuts. So please, someone, anyone, help me out and try to point me in the right direction. Thanks everyone in advance for ur help

Snyder's should be ashamed of themselves - no one should have been put in this position. As far as I know you can walk away from the route but I think you have to give notice. Take the contract to an attorney - it might be the best money you ever spent. You should be able to get a free consult. let a professional give you guidance, not one of us. I know I don't have a clue as to half of what's in that contract. Good luck - keep us all posted!!!

TALK TO A LAWYER. Almost all firms will give you an initial consultation free. You may need a bankruptcy lawyer or one who specializes in business contracts. Sometimes all it takes is 1 letter from a lawyer and things work out. Your comment about them suing you even if you declare bankruptcy tells me you definitely need help. They can't come after you if you file. Are you incorporated? If you are you may be able to file bk for your corporation and keep your personal credit out of it. But any way you shake it you better get a lawyer. If not you're toast. They count on running guys like you over that they know won't get professional help. They'll try to screw you every way possible until you lawyer up. I don't want to be rude, but smarten up. GET A LAWYER.

I have invested in a Mission Foods route and so far has been great. The attitude with Mission is fantastic. They are giving me a 90 day stale allowance. 22% comm. w/ 78/22 split. The route is large with huge potential to split. If I decide to hire someone Mission will pay me 36% and tier down to 25% within 6 months.
I will only hear from a DM if a customer calls in or he has sold me a display. Can anyone at S-L imagine that kind of attitude.
100% comm. on crossdock. Keep them comin!
This company is very I/O friendly and the other guys in my area will attest to that.
That being said, Pepp farms seems to be good. 25% comm. but the route gonna cost you 100g plus. 25% will offset that note for sure. They pay zero promos.
Little Debbie(no equity)@ 22% and 25% C- store line.
Flowers seem to be messed up here but others on this forum has stated they like it.
When looking into being an I/O there are several factors to consider:
-contract
-commision %
-product quality
-expenses
-split potential(there needs to be enough projected growth to do this.) not a must, just a big plus if you can split.
-overall attitude toward an I/O
Snyders Lance falls short in every category.
Hope this helps and good luck. If you thinking of being an I/O you better take care of your customers. They will make or break YOUR business.
<quoted text>
seriously? what crossdock do you get paid full commission on, surely not Walmart we get paid 8% here in St. Louis and we get paid 20% scewed avg on all Mission products and definitely dont get help when we hire somebody? I bet you are out of the South Region out of Georgia?

I have a Snyders Lance route and a Mission route. By FAR.....Snyders Lance is better than Mission! I can't believe I'm saying this.....but, it's true! I've been doin Mission for 7 weeks....I've averaged $3500. in sales each week....and haven't gotten a check yet!! In 7 weeks, no check! no cash either! My first 5 weeks, in 1 WalMart alone....I've staled out almost 4 skids of cross dock chips that did there time in WalMarts steel in the backroom!
Just wanted to add a buyer beware about Mission too!

at the time i posted this we did get 22% comm. on crossdock. now we get 8%. i dont even look at these pallets in wal mart now. it seems all these companies screw their i/o's on crossdocks today.one wm agreed to send them back and i have had another stale out bags without me crediting them. they can use a dept#95 to do so. the other ones wont do it.

the tier down works as previously posted. one guy and his wife did it this year and say it worked fine. they made more money, grew their route and now together we have combined stops to create a new full time route that will avg 5500 weekly sales. been on the market for about 5 weeks. this area continues to grow in sales. i am out of louisville,ky.

thats jacked up. 7 weeks ! 4 skids ? i have to say s-l billing was much better. i knew to a tee what i was going to make each week. dealing with the office and open invoice payments is frustrating.

i hope mission is givin you a stale allowance the firt 90 days. it helps cause there are several items that just dont produce and never will. i stopped ordering some or cut back severely and changed alot of sets to include more facings of the main sellers. you been doing this work for a while so i prob aint sayin nothin you dont already know.

overall i like mission much better. we make 22% comm. around here and i avg, 19.8% comm. after promo shares. then comes their fees and my expenses. i have made a better livin than s-l this year. i hope it works out better for you.

you aint makin a full 17 % thats why i question your math. you say you be puttin 1700/wk in the bank after route payments and i highly doubt it, even if you are runnin 10g a week. it dont take an einstein to figure shared promos drive that margin to 14.5% and a c store line is not gonna fill the gap. if your happy and LOVE your route, great.

i dont need need a lecture about hard work from you nor about snyders being a fantasy land. i would run circles around you and your wife. not all distributors have the extra help and can run in teams. this outfit will screw you at every turn.

i have been asked repeatedly to come back or if i cold handle my mission route along with s-l. after the hard pretzel snyders gave me it would be a cold day in hell b4 i took 17% from these shady a holes. nothins changed around here except people are makin less, workin harder and goin bankrupt. i see new faces every 3 months and its not for the reasons you say. sure some are not cut out for this work but the majority have been lied to and scammed about the weekly sales and money to be made.enjoy those sunday pullups.

yeah i thought out of the box and left. much better off today and will be much better when i sell off part of my new route.

OUR WAREHOUSE HAS ITS ISSUES LIKE ALL OF THEM BUT EVERYTHING GETS RESOLVED DOWN THE ROAD AND IF IT DOESNT THEN DEEL WITH IT !!! YOU HAVE TO LEAVE THE HOUSE IN THE MORNING PRETTY SURE THAT ALOT OF THINGS ARE NOT GOING TO GO YOUR WAY, THATS LIFE WEATHER YOUR A SNACK VENDOR, A FIREMAN, OR A FARMER. I HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE TO ANYONE ESPECIALLY YOU ABOUT OUR ROUTE EXCEPT WE LOVE IT !!!IT JUST PISSES YOU OFF BECAUSE SOMEONE IS SPEAKING OUTSIDE THE BOX AND NOT BASHING THE COMPANY OR COMPLAINING LIKE A LITTLE 6 YEAR OLD SCHOOL KID WHO JUST PISSED THEMSELVES. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, GET OUT OF IT PLAIN AND SIMPLE. TRY TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX FOR ONCE YOU MAY SUPRISE YOURSELF, BY THE WAY WAL-MART AND JC PENNYS IS HIRING CHRISTMAS HELP.
