I think you guys are wrong, I have been in the NS rr business for 4 years and its a good company to work for. In the past 10 years or so NS has invested in new technology, even more so, electric locomotives that are completely electric. If you do not believe me, visit nscorp.com . But what I am trying to say here. Is you people need to give this a chance. This is a big opportunity for this community.

NSConductor, we're not getting gauranteed jobs with this. All it's doing is running farmers their homes.

I'm glad that you work for NSRR, and you like your job, but I like being out in the boonies with nothing but cows and crops for company.I don't want to listen to trains and trucks every day. I want to hear cows and donkeys and ducks and chickens. We live in New Market for a good reason! More than once I have entertained the idea of moving away if the intermodal comes here.

Besides, Knoxville and Morristown are already set up for an intermodal! It would be closer to the interstate there, and wouldn't put any people out of thier life's work.

Miera, what the hell are you waiting on??? Take the first bus out of here and take your buddy Moose with your ass and move to Iowa witht the corn and cows. Get the hell out asap, No one will miss You or him. Some of us WANT the rail way to come on in and build the Intermodal here. It will help this COUNTY, it isn't ALL about New Market! Good God we ALL have to pitch in and help as a whole. You people are nuts as hell to think you can stop the Feds or the Rail Road. Again, Get the Hell out if thats what makes your boat float!

The only fools fighting this are people that don't even own the land. IT IS GONNA HAPPEN people. Get with it or move the fuck to Iowa and be a real farmer. I wanna know how much food is on the table or in the GE in the kitchen from these so called farms? How many farmers are going to go under. I think the bastards should pay as much taxes as the rest of us do! Green fields my ass. Those people are breaking the law by putting those stupid ass signs up all over 11E. Come on police make them stop it. We have to bring in any jobs that we can and I don't think that anyone has said or been saying that the rail road was gonna make 100000000000s of jobs; all that I have heard and found out on my own is that the areas around it will build up and make jobs. Who in the hell could want that to fail? N I M B Y is who! To hell with the rest of the counties but just don't put it in our back yards. Real cool people. Real cool.

Guess you haven't heard the news? Well, the county has decided NOT to located an industrial park in New Market nor will they place any kind of warehouse or distribution centers in the area.
Due to funds, people not showing interest, and no area industry interest the Norfolk Southern railroad has started looking elsewhere. The railroad officials have put New market on the back burner. Sure, they still have a real estate interest, but they are looking at more cost effective locations elsewhere where the locals and people want them. So, now you can stop your worrying and rubbing nothing in people's faces. Norfolk Southern said screw new Market months ago.

But I don't want to have to drive to Magnolia for my prostitutes. With the Intermodal in town, New Market will be covered with them. Got to save that gas money and use it to buy other stuff. If you know what I mean.

So will the public service committee calculate how many of the new 12 jobs the intermodal creates will be prostitutes? Then you have drug pusher(s) also and at least one crane operator.

All of this just in our back door. That is a lot of gas we are saving. If we could just buy beer on sundays. Now that is another run for fun we would not have to waste our gas for either.

Nope. Railroad re-evaluated. They are tired of the opposition and they now know it will be the most expensive site. Only two tracks are in place, but if they did place it in New Market they would need to lay more track than other sites.
Jefferson County has decided to located an industrial park in Jefferson City above Lowes, not New Market. So you tell me why people think Norfolk Souther still wants to build here when 1. They aren't going to have an industrial park in New Market 2. It is the most expensive site. Use your head. The railroad got tired of all the crap (like we are talking about here) and they are looking elsewhere. Big corporations don't beat around the bush. It might happen in Jeff County, but not in New Market.

Whether we take advantage of it or not is beyond me. But it is coming folks. Make your plans, hire your lawyer, load your guns, here it comes !

You need to be in Dandridge and hear the chit chat in the mayors office and the Business folks talking. It's going in above Jefferson City now. The railroad has sent engineers to evaluate the grade and look at a slope planning. It will be cheaper for them (about 8 million cheaper) and they will have an industrial park and the state will support a shorter cheaper route to I-81. New Market is old hat. The 50 acres the railroad has secured rights on in New Market will be sold out at auction. The seller has first rights on a purchase. It's all in the works. Read the Standard Banner this week.

No Change in Intermodal Location
Jefferson City Site Not Suitable for Intermodal Facility
Norfolk Southern has not changed the location of the proposed Intermodal, according to information released on November 3,2011 by Susan Terpay - Director of Public Relations for Norfolk Southern. Terpay communicated Thursday that Norfolk Southern had evaluated a Jefferson City site that was under consideration by the Jefferson County Industrial Development Board for an Industrial Park. The IDB had received information that Norfolk Southern might consider the site as an alternative location for the Intermodal that has been proposed for New Market. The proposed Quaker Valley location has met with some opposition from locals and the IDB had taken the location off of the table for an Industrial Park. The owner of the Jefferson City property had hoped that his site would meet the needs of Norfolk Southern and that they would consider locating the proposed Intermodal adjacent to an Industrial Park in Jefferson City.

Terpay communicated that, while Norfolk Southern had determined that rail access could be provided for an Industrial Rail Project, the Jefferson City site was not suitable for an Intermodal Facility. Norfolk Southern will continue in their efforts to purchase property in the footprint of the proposed Intermodal location ( New Market ), according to Terpay. She would not comment on any specific real estate bids or purchases in the area.

Norfolk Southern is in the process of completing and accessing a new Intermodal Facility in Memphis, as well as other areas. Terpay stated that 2014 was the target year for determinations regarding the New Market location, though the various facets of the project are tied to a larger project.

The Jefferson County Industrial Development Board is currently in flux as they are experiencing a shift in seated members. The Jefferson County Nominating Committee has not yet made a recommendation for the open seats on the Board, though they have taken applications for the seats. Any committee or board placement requires the vote of the Full Commission. It is unclear, at this time, if the decision of Norfolk Southern will alter the IDB’s decision to remove New Market from consideration for an Industrial Park.

I have been to the Mayors office and he said he has NO control, it's a railroad and fed deal, made years ago. He thinks we may be cutting our own throats and someone else will come in and call all the shot's and cut Jeff County and it's citizens out of most of the benefits of the intermodel facility. Keep up the good, high quality posts, nimrod. NOT 1

NS has never shifted their decision to locate in New Market. If it comes to East Tennessee, it will be in New Market. I read the Jefferson County Post story and it spells it out in black and white. I also spoke to the Post and the information is directly from NS. www.jeffersoncountypost.com
