Sorry if this double posts, but I have a long and important message I feel should be put online to discredit negative comments on Dr. Aggarwal that are posted online. I stumbled across. Since this is pretty much the only place I've seen so far that doesn't have any comments and is ranked pretty high in Google I figured after being a loyal patient of 5 years that I would tell it like it is for anyone willing to read some facts as opposed to bias opinion (many comments obviously have been left by disgruntled patients that have been discharged for whatever reason because he does not hesitate to discharge a drug abuser). First of all when you read an online comment or review about the good Doctor and you see the occasional libelous claim that he is liberal with writing prescriptions, the staff is rude etc. Keep in mind the people who wrote them. The best way I know how to explain it is this. There are maybe less than a dozen true pain clinics in the state of Alabama. Each and every pain clinic's duty should be to treat chronic pain (for you that haven't had to live with)chronic pain is something that cannot be alleviated with over the counter medications. For example my MRI turned up early onset of Degenerative Disc Disease from my L5-S1, facet joint arthropathy with fluid in the joint, spondylosis, and a herniated disc. The physician at the strictly business oriented Spine Center couldn't tell me exactly where the most severe pain came from and recommended some exploratory surgery and possible surgical work on my deteriorated discs. They sent me to their own in-house physical rehab which just worsened the problem. He then decided to do a very invasive injection which required heavy sedation and Fentanyl to wake up without being in worse pain that I started out with. Soon I realized that this guy was in it for money (just as surgeons are in it for money) they go broke if they run out of backs to cut on. And people have the balls to say that Dr. A is a bad man for providing a much more intelligent alternative to risky surgery that can in theory cause paralysis if done wrong.(My grandmother had to suffer this and I wouldn't want to deal with the same problems she has as a result of botched surgery.) Dr.A is a very compassionate physician and highly intelligent. He sees all his patients face to face every visit instead of pass you on to a nurse so he doesn't have to bother with you. I want to clarify why he gets bad comments from people who say he writes a lot of medication. Take me for example. When I first saw him I was getting limited opioid therapy from my Spine Cente Dr. as well as anxiety medication from my Primary Physician. My first visit with Dr. A he thorougly explained in detail all the risks involved with opioid therapy and had a contract for me to read and sign saying that I understood that there are very strict rules as well as rigorous drug screens. He then said he would "take over" the prescribing of my anxiety medication so that he may closely monitor all medication which is a genius idea and most of the hotshot Pain Clinics wont bother with it because it adds to the total amount of medication they are writing. But you see, That's where the compassion of Dr. A comes into play. That crap doesn't even cross his mind he would rather monitor you than sit there and worry about getting out of dispensing a medication for a pre-existing condition. This was for my safety mind you he isn't required to do this

Continued from previous post...Keep in mind if you live with true chronic pain you build a tolerance to the pain medication. He had me titrate slowly up to a doseage that worked and then I haven't had any tolerance issues for several years. Where Dr. A really shines is like I said before his compassion (which some morons choose to try an exploit) so not too long ago he implemented a very high tech drug testing system that can monitor the amounts of your meds, the specific meds you took or didn't take. This is how he judges you as a patient. By your drug tests. Not if you are a grad student or a construction worker, but simply, does this person have problems on the MRI scans that can be treated with trigger point injections, nerve tests, and yes sometimes medication therapy. He lets the medication monitoring system speak for itself. I've seen a couple dozen people discharged from failing drug tests, filling medication without notifying him. He will not hesitate to discharge if you can't follow his rules, so if you are a drug abuser then don't even waste your or their time please because it creates stress on the staff as a whole. If you only knew the daily bullcrap the staff has to put up with. Patients who can't follow the rules yet have the nerve to complain about staff and even the Dr. online. So when deciding on a pain clinic you need to ask yourself these questions. 1. Do you want to risk getting butchered by a surgeon. 2. Do you want to go to a place where they treat you like a number and are lucky to see the Doctor in person at all (how can they monitor your medication or medical progress if they never physically see you?) Dr. A clearly states in his contract which some idiots I'm sure don't bother reading, but he does clearly state that if you do not show improvement and cannot function better as a result of his therapy then he will no longer treat you. I will leave you with this... Before I was his patient... I was struggling to make grades to make the 45 minute trip to my University for my undergrad studies.(car rides are the WORST for me for some reason) Here I am at least 5 years later and have an A.A., A.S., B.S. and am currently working on my J.D. which requires a once a week drive to Birmingham which would have not been an option due to my difficulty riding in a car more than 20 minutes at a time without stretching my spine. This Doctor and staff care about patients progress, safety, and comfort. What more could you ask. And to those who take the time to condemn a man who has worked so hard to provide these things to people in need then I recommend you get an education and see how difficult that is in itself and imagine people writing libelous comments about your online. Id like to give one more anonymous thanks to the staff and the great Doc. People who write the bad things obviously arent experiencing pain or have been kicked out because you have rules and without them the place would be a mess. So on behalf on the hundreds of grateful patients whos lives you have made a positive impact on. Thank you. Also I apologize for the length of this it made me make in into a few separate posts. From the bottom of my heart I express thanks to Dr. Aggarwal, and the rest of the staff because if you have impacted half your patients the way you have with me then you are doing great things and are one of a kind. Don't let the occasional loser get you down. You guys seem to do a great job moving forward without it bothering you while continuing a top notch practice that the big profit oriented clinics would have to relinquish millions of dollars to achieve. Imagine if a Ten. Valley Pain doctor had to see a patient face to face and couldn't do 5,000 dollar injections that hurt patients (repeat customers who have a condition that slowly gets worse due to invasive as hell epidurals is the business plan over there I guess. Even better they can't complain to anyone but the nurse)... Ha! Love you guys

You should go see this well known drug dealing doctor over in The Shoals area. He's been selling dope to all kinds of junkies, even college kids. He comes to The Rocket City every so often and stays at the best hotels drug profits can buy. After you start trippin on the dope he sells ya, him and his wife dress up in Batman and Batwoman costumes, and will tie you up and stick weird looking sex toys up your poo hole. I should know... it happened to me more often than I care to admit.:)

I have been going to Dr. Aggarwal for almost two years now. I have been in several car accidents and various other incidents that resulted in chronic severe lower back pain. I have been to three different back surgeons for opinions and all have said that I need to have three vertebrae fused together in my lower lumbar. However, due to other problems with my lower back and degenerative disc disease none of the so called back specialists would operate on my back. They sent me to physical therapy and gave me a facet block, which ended up causing my pain to get much more severe and the quality of my life to go to the toilet.
Finally, one of the doctors recommended that I try pain management and suggested Dr Aggarwal. It took a little bit of time to get an appointment to see him but it was worth the wait 100%. When he saw me for the first time he went over all my medical history and asked me what my expectations were with him. I told him that I just wanted to be able to enjoy my life again and no be burdened with crippling pain 24 hours a day. He told me the risks, benefits, and explained all about his substance abuse policies. Immediately after my visit I noticed that I could actually function again.
Being a patient of his has completely changed my life for the better. I cannot speak highly enough about him or his staff. Everyone is very professional and caring for the patients.
For everyone who critisizes him for prescribing narcotic pain medication: Unfortunately there is NO non narcotic medicine that has the ability to reduce high levels of chronic pain on a daily basis. People are quick to judge his patients and call them drug abusers. The vast majority of his patients are honest and trustworthy citizens that work just as hard as everybody else. They cannot help that they suffer from chronic pain. And for the idiots who say to "just deal with it", its not that symple. Dealing with severe pain on a daily basis causes depression and is very harmful to the body of the person suffering from it. Maybe some day the people who critisize will get injured and need pain medication. Then you will see that its not as simple as ignoring the pain and living your life.
Once again, thank you Dr. Aggarwal and all of your staff for providing the state of Alabama with your compassion and expertise. I commend you for helping me and others lead a productive and normal life. The world could benefit from if there were more doctors around like you.

I too have suffered from chronic back pain for 15 years, from 3 cervical discs. Two are bulged and one is herniated. I had the same neurosurgeon for the last 7 years, who had tried several different forms of therapy including epidural injections. After 7 years of treating me, she had to turn me over to Dr. Aggarwal because I had built up a tolarance to my pain medication and needed only the type of pain meds that few doctors are allowed to prescribe.

I have found Dr. Aggarwal to be extremely professional in my dealings with him. This type of therapy has it's drawbacks, because some of the side effects of the pain meds can make life difficult, but nothing compared to being disabled and living off a government disability check.

I am almost 50 years of age, and have no living family left to take care of me. Were it not for a caring doctor like Shawn Aggarwal, I might already be homeless or worse. My employer can easily get rid of me, if I ever reach a point, where I cannot perform my job functions. This is a very stressful situation to live with, and it is only through the professional treatment I have recieved from Dr. Aggarwal and his staff, that I have been able to keep my head above water. I should also mention, that I have had 3 neurologists, and 2 spine surgeons recommend chronic pain care with Dr. Aggarwal, rather than take the risks associated with disc replacement surgery.

These spine surgeries are very invasive, and carry serious risks. Post surgery infection can be life threatening, with no guarantees that the surgery will improve a patients condition.

The fact is, it is only with the professional care I have received from Dr. Aggarwal that has kept me working, and paying my taxes, and kept me off an operating table. I may eventually have to go the route of surgery, but with Dr. Aggarwal's help, thankfully it will be a last resort after all other therapies have been exhausted.

For those people who think that you want to try to obtain these drugs from Dr. Aggarwal without a legitimate condition, I can tell you that you are going to waste a lot of time and money. There are numerous nerve damage tests that doctors can give to determine a patients condition, in addition to MRI's. Dr. Aggarwal will also require you to continously go through repeated drug screenings, not only to make sure you are actually taking the medicines he is prescribing, but also to make sure you are not using any other illegal drugs, as well as prescription drugs you do not have a legitimate prescription for.

From the very beginning, I was very impressed with Dr. Aggarwal's thoroughness in treating my condition. It only takes one conversation with the man, to clearly see that he is very sharp mentally, and on top of each and every file he is reviewing.

After being in his care for the past year and a half, I certainly have no complaints, and would recommend him to anyone who has a legitimate chronic pain problem. After 15 years of dealing with chronic pain, he has helped me deal with my pain more effectively than any other doctor I have visited.

I have been seeing Dr. A for about a year now and he has worked wonders for me. I was prescribed Xanax for 13 years by another doctor but Dr. A took over that prescription so that I didn't have to drive all the way to Decatur to see that doctor, plus, Dr. A probably wanted to monitor that particular prescription anyway, which was fine with me. I was taking 2mg Xanax for anxiety / panic disorder. He also wrote me a prescription for pain (which I won't mention it's name) and it has brought me back to life and I can now function normally and do things with my son and act like a normal father should. Do I still hurt? Yes, of course I do but it's nothing compared to what it was before my first visit with Dr. Aggarwal. The man is super nice and he knows what he's doing. The wait time from walking in the door, taking drug test, seeing the doctor, walking out the door is about 15 to 25 min tops. You do have to sign a contract on your very first visit and if you have no insurance, the fee is $500 and then $200 every three months, once you get on the 3 month program with him. Anyone that has bad things to say about him probably didn't follow the rules. His rules are strict, as they should be. If you're an addict, you don't belong in there. He just recently switched me from Xanax to Klonopin and I am a much happier person now. After taking Xanax for 13 years straight, it's nice to finally be off of it and I was able to do it and not have any side effects such as seizures. I went right over to Klonopin without a flinch and I don't take as much of that medicine. I'm working on winging myself off of it completely because Xanax or Klonopin is not a cure for anything. It only alters the mind and suppresses the feelings of anxiety or a panic attack. He doesn't overwrite my pain medication either. I only get one pain med from him and it's not 150 or 180 a month, like some are. All I can say is that the man has worked magic for me and I can't thank him enough. You people that talk bad about him really need to stop. He's not what some of these people make him out to be online. Only haters, addicts, ect.. are the ones that have something bad to say. If you were discharged, you know why you were. It's just that simple. If I failed a drug test, I would expect to be discharged also but I never have to worry about failing my drug test. Hopefully soon I'll be able to tell Dr. A that I no longer take Klonopin and then that won't be in my system anymore. When he quits writing it for me (after I ask him to), he shouldn't see it in my drug screening anymore. If he does, then he should dismiss me but until then, no worries. He's top notch, smart man and knows what he is doing. You, the person that takes the medicine should know what you're doing and not be greedy or an addict. It would make his life much easier.

@ Alyssa14:

If you haven't already, you can get your family doctor to refer you to see him. Just tell them that is who you want to go see and leave it at that. It's your request and the family doctor should fulfill it for you and not give you any problems about it. Good luck!

I have a couple friends that go there.

They say first thing he asks is what meds do you want.

There is a reason the DEA is after him, and beginning this year it will be near impossible to get much of anything from him due to overdoses and car wrecks where his name is on every bottle of the impaired drivers. This has been told to me by 2 people that go to him.

He prescribes my buddy 190 roxy's a month. Even if taken the way the doctor recommends, my buddy is strung out on them now. Its a shame, but its a sure way for Dr. A to get his payment every month for the appointments.

I know several patients of this man and his combinations of drugs and the amounts are outrageous!! Sure I know some people do have chronic and severe pain but i know people who go to him just because he WILL give them what they ask for... also I work in a pharmacy and no one will fill scripts from him anymore. There is a reason for that people!
