I've lived here for 8 years and have never bought one. Total waste of money.

I have a question, why are they selling village stickers for those who want one for $1.00 ?

I read somewhere it was for those that park in Chicago, so they wouldn't get a ticket. How can Chicago give you a ticket for not having a village sticker, they know where the car is registered when they run the plates.

Can someone explain any of this to me?

Chicago PD doesn't take the time to run the plates. They just slap a ticket on your car and it's a big pain getting thru the red tape to resolve it. It's just easier to get the $1 sticker and not have the hassles with the city of Chicago.

If I recall, the vehicle stickers were done away with as part of the Home Rule vote a couple of years ago.

I don't know the percentage of residents who purchased the stickers but many people didn't. As a result, the village felt that they might as well use the elimination of vehicle stickers as another carrot (in addition to property tax rebates) in exchange for supporting home rule (which equates to an extra sales tax).

Don't be surpised if the stickers come back at some point in time. They were a source of revenue for the village and one day they will be back.

I think this is the first year village residents don't have to buy stickers. We had to buy them last spring.

We have had to buy vehicle stickers for the pass 20 years, or more.

The elimination of stickers was in exchange for the utility tax that they slapped on our electric bills to build a new police station and municipal garage. They saved us a few bucks changing electric suppliers, then immediately took it away with this tax. They say the police station has too much mold for them to stay there but when the new station is built, the old building will be good enough for the park district to use. Go figure. And I'm sure there's no room in the Taj ma, I mean village, hall.

And don't forget the $2.75 fee on your cell phone bill, per phone, per month, that easily makes up for the $15 yearly sticker fee. Get ready for water bill increase shock in the next few months. Speaking from a net perspective, all the Village has done for us in the last year has cost us big money.

That's what you get for letting these asshats get Home Rule pushed through. Now they don't need a referendum for new taxes or tax increases. Morons.

A city does not have to be home rule to increase or impose taxes on autos or utilities.

They are money hungry. Have you all ever heard Trustee Smith speak? He is a prime example of why we need term limits. Trustee Bowden is another example, but the people of NL don't show up to vote.

Rick, did I mention anything about autos or utilities? Nope, sure didn't. Everything else is now fair game isn't it?

Nope you did not. My point was an example. You dont have to be home rule to implement or raise taxes. Try and follow along.
