I don't know about standing there yelling about it. That seems as disruptive as the dog's barking. I would knock on the door and kindly ask them to rectify the situation. To answer your question, yes barking dogs ar a big deal depending on when they're barking and how often. I have a dog and I am a responsible pet owner, I don't leave my dog outside to bark and annoy the neighbors and I expect the same courtesy.

I had a bad neighbor with a bad barking dog and the dog would come to do his duty in my yard. The neighbor would not clean it up either.

Soooo, I made Italian garlic bread dripping with butter and "heavy" garlic. It was really soggy! 1I set it in the yard and the dog had a feast. The next day the dog was tied to a post in his own back yard and I never saw him in my yard again.

my dog barks occasionally outdoors...in the middle of the afternoon for less than a minute. but he is not left unattended outdoors. but this is the neighbors dog. seriously, what do folks do at home that requires so much concentration that a dog barking disrupts them? i mean really, if you are a brain surgeon or a nuclear fusion specialist should you be working at home on this? and if you are shouldn't you have enough skills to ignore it? you know, just makes me wanna play jimmy buffetts changes in attitude 29 times in a row over the outdoor speakers. this has been going on for years. he barks for about ten minutes then it is over. and if you want total peace and quiet shouldn't you live in the middle of 50 acres in mississippi? what about kids playing? or the jerk who works on his car all night? or the band. non of this bothers me. seriously, the dog is the big deal?

Just because something doesn't bother you doesn't mean it doesn't bother someone else. Everyone is different. Babies crying in a restaurant or plane don't bother me. However I am capable of understanding that it bothers other people. Is your neighbor a brain surgeon? Probably not. What difference does it make? He may work third shift. He may be sick. If I did something that bothered a neighbor of mine I would be kind enough to rectify the situation. I just don't understand the attititue of "it doesn't bother me, so I'm going to do it anyway". Obviously if this is a neighbor that complains about everything I wouldn't but much into what he was complianing about. It comes down to common courtesy.

I agree with you that going out there yelling is wrong. He should speak to the dogs' owner. If the guy complains about absolutely everything than the dog owner will take it for what is it,continuous complaining. Let him/her handle it.

It's called CONSIDERATION for others. Agreed about the other folks that blast their radios, have unruley kids, work on cars all night, etc. I also bet these people that are known in the neighborhood to do these things have a horrible reputation to go along with it. If you want to join these groups - your choice. You will be no better than them. We should start a post on INCONSIDERATE neighbors.

If you live in a subdivision setting then you have a responsibility of consideration to your neighbor. If you don't agree and you live your life as if it is all about you and your dog, then YOU are the one who should move to 50 acres in Mississippi.

I know someone that lives on fourth! A lot of people have dogs on that block and they all bark at each other. Its funny to me because this hillrod who is my friends neighbor, has 2 dogs who bark at my friends dogs and he keeps threatening that he is going to kill her dogs. All the while, his dogs are barking just as much if not more than hers. I told my friend to record him next time he makes his threats. I have witnessed him a few times making the threats (over dogs barking!) The best part of it all is that every time Mr. Hillrod starts screaming outside over the dogs, Mrs. Hillrod also starts screaming but at her husband to "shut the f*ck up and get back in side a**hole". Good ole fourth street...

I can't decide what is worse - barking dogs or unruley big-mouthed, punk, bratty kids?

I think Mr. Hillrod has a few unruley, big mouthed, punk, bratty kids as well as the barking "show dogs"! They claim that the dogs are show dogs but they are butt-ugly!

I will say that barking dogs can get annoying. But if the owner lets their dogs out for a very brief period and they bark at a squirrel, bird, whatever, not much can be done. They are dogs. Leaving them to bark constantly for long periods of time is another thing. Having your neighbor say a .45 would look good in your dog is a huge issue. I know. I also know that in IL it is a felony to willfully kill a dog (cat, etc.)- which he has been made aware of. Neighbors should simply be respectful of each other in regards to everything- kids, music, cars parked improperly, etc. So if your dogs bark occasionally when let out and it's not in the middle of the night, no big deal. If your neighbor is yelling, then it needs to be addressed. Then again, maybe it has and he is just that big of a mmiserable jackass and concerns himself with nothing but himself. Enough said.

it isn't my dog barking. it is my creepy neighbor who comes out and yells at another neighbors dog. i would rather hear the dog. Then again, maybe it has and he is just that big of a mmiserable jackass and concerns himself with nothing but himself. Enough said. well said! and he is retired.

I understand that you are mad at the yelling "creepy guy". I can see how that would be hard to listen to too. I am just saying that the "creepy guy" may have a legitimate complaint. And that maybe I once found myself standing at the bedroom window at 5 in the morning behaving like a "creepy gal" shouting at a consistently inconsiderate dog owner.

I believe that the expectation of reasonable quiet should be in the subdivision, not on 50 acres in Mississippi. I owned a dog while living in a situation where his behavior would directly effect my neighbor. He was trained to bark once when he wanted in. That took work on my part. On the rare occasion when he decided to speak to the neighborhood, the people in our house were trained to put a stop to it immediately by letting him in.

My point is that it takes extra work to own a dog in this kind of situation. Some people do not want to do the extra work and think that is okay. It is not. They need to get off their duff and let the dog in.
