$1700 for family coverage?
Look at it this way, can your husband take a $1700/mo pay reduction? If his small company has to offer Health Insurance, do you really think they have the money to pay for it? <lol "You" will get a salary reduction to cover the cost. There is no such thing as a free lunch... You should know that. Now, if the 36M they claim need Health Insurance and can't pay for it, then add the cost of covering 36M people and divide that by those like you who are paying for it. So figure your $1700/mo policy will go up to about $1900. How's that for your free lunch?
I have walked in "High's" shoes, so to speak. I don't think Obama's plan is the answer but that doesn't change the fact that this system needs some serious revision. People can choose to stay within their budget when buying a house, a car or any other life necessity. But when it comes to health insurance, if you want the one with wheels on it and a roof that doesn't leak then you are stuck paying luxury prices. The people who are trying to play the game by the rules are burned by a system that bleeds them dry, denies them insurance because of pre-existing conditions and forces them into the very problem that Obama is trying to throw a blanket over instead of targeting the issues that create the problem. It is understandable that some people see a life ring being thrown at them and they grab it. They are drowning in debt and need through no choice of their own.
Suggestion: Require people to show a birth certificate or citizenship papers when admitted to a hospital. I wouldn't have a problem showing that if I did not have an insurance card. If this cannot be done, kindly treat the patient and then have the Department of Immigration meet the patient at the door when he is released. No repeat offenders and the hospital helps the Department of Immigration do their job. One problem solved without the rest of us paying the price.
If we concentrate on protecting our own, the problem shrinks. This does not make us insensitive. It means we are preventing people from taking advantage of us. I am sure that there are many other areas involving insurance coverage where the system is being taken advantage of. Someone needs to do some work to target these issues instead of taking the easy way out, which is charging me and every other honest person more money.
