That's any company. When the work force is flooded with applicants because everyone is laid off, companies don't have to pay as much. When they cant get help because the work force is slim pickings, they have to offer more money to attract applicants.

I believe things are happening that will help our energy situation. Remember the prices we pay are here to stay. I believe you guys are old enough to realize that. A little research will reveal that infrastructure may need to be upgraded along with a housing plan in the areas throughout the country that will be affected. In a poor economy nothing moves fast enough for those that are in need. Our politicians are typically not affected by the dips in the economy so it is hard for them to relate. In a perfect world there would be no dips but as you watch a dip a lot of money is made by some.
Good points Mike. Texas does have a good economy now. Fuel and energy prices would drop a lot if we tapped the resources we have. The only problem we would face is getting the oil refined in a timely manner. We have not built a refinery since the 70's. We need more refineries. That's more work, more jobs, and more tax revenue for the government. Don't forget all the tax revenue the government would get from this. A hell of a lot more than taxing us to death! We are stupid not to drill! Its a win win for America!

Why don't you and that quack Professor get the hell out of this country if Obama is so bad hey tough guy?

Don't get me wrong, I hate having seen all the tech jobs turned over to Indians with green cards, but that ship sailed long ago. The Indians are well educated, and skilled, so they got the jobs. They initially worked for less too. Business is business as they say.
Those jobs are gone forever. America needs to create new jobs right? How about exploiting our energy sources? We'd create millions of high paying jobs! Oh wait, Obama wants to inhibit us on using our energy strengths. Well, how about incenting business to grow & expand? Oh wait, Obama wants them to pay more taxs, and deal with more regulations. So that won't work. Hmm, maybe your right....(lol) Nothing is going to change until we vote the left wing liberal Obama supporters out. They want things like they are.

I don't know if its any company. My wage didn't go down while the economy took a dive and I would assume yours didn't either. We are fortunate enough to work for companies that can handle the dips. The big box stores along with the large fast food chains are in our league as long as they run there business responsibly. I would say they could afford to pay the higher minimum wage throughout the country and still make enough money. They just may not satisfy wallstreet the first several quarters while they jack prices up a little to where they need to be

Since the 70's refining technology has become much more efficient along with everything else. The Keystone pipeline will bring oil from Canada to Houston. They have capacity there (or there planning on expanding) to handle that oil. We have 4 refineries within 200 miles right here. I'm not sure of what capacity they are running at but expand a little at each site and you could probably solve the refining question. Oil men bargain just like politicians so your sometimes searching for what is really needed. Unless were going to tax the oil going out of the country, or until we bring large scale manufacturing back to this country, I don't see the price or taxation changing that much. The higher price we are paying should satisfy the oil companies and government taxes. As the price goes down neither are happy. That is why I don't see the price of fuel coming down even if there is a oil boom.

Sally & Mike: Why are you so protective toward all the mistakes Obama has made? All the lies he has told you? Or is it that you personally need a Nanny Government and like Obama's marxist ideology?

Actually liberal policy hurts the ones it's supposed to protect the most. Neighbor is correct. We can be the energy capital of the world with the strongest economy if we want. Liberals don't want it? I don't understand why, but they don't?

It's a world oil market just like we talked about on another thread. The majority of the oil produced here and in Canada would probably go overseas is what I thought we agreed on. I would like to see lower fuel prices because of the oil here consumed here theory and I believe that is what Obama is trying to get out of the oil companies. A certain percent of every dollar we spend goes to taxes. I would think it is not in the governments best interest to bring a gallon of gas down to a couple bucks, that would be half the tax revenue they are receiving now. Nothing that I have read or seen anywhere. I have no political agenda. This is my opinion.

Mike, we agree on the drill here, use here, keeps the money here. But the facts are facts too. The Obama administration has purposly restricted & inhibited oil production in America. If I recall the numbers,Oil production on federal land has declined some 40% during his term. Only private & state land (ND as an example) has boomed. This is a great example of Obama lieing to the uninformed voters too. I am sure you recall Obama recently touting "Oil production is up", right? He's taking credit for the private & state decisions to drill, and not admiting that his administration is inhibiting all production on federal land. <Just say'n

Obama gave Brazil millions to update their drilling capabilities, then told then we will buy oil from you. Liberals will tell you the republicans block Obama jobs bills, when the truth is Obama wants Americans on welfare. This is the "LOW INFORMATION VOTER" factor! They believe what the media and Obama tells them. They are very foolish! and they vote!

Yeah your right Obama gave Brazil millions of dollars to invest in there energy program but I highly doubt he wants Americans on welfare. Probably has more to do with multiple suppliers and getting a deal on the oil we buy from them. As you guys know the process for extracting the oil "hydraulic fracturing" can be a environmental concern. As we discussed before the areas affected most likely have to be completely updated roads, power and housing to name a few. I'm sure a lot has been learned in ND and all are trying not to make the same mistakes throughout the country. Because of the hydraulic fracturing techniques being used new federal, state, and local laws also have to be written before the drilling begins. I believe our goverment is trying to negotiate with the oil companies so America and America can get the best deal possable. You may be right time will tell if I'm the fool!

The government and media is not being honest with the public. The extraction process is not unsafe. They want green energy. Which we invested billions to companies that failed to produce any. Obama told us we need high energy prices to force us to go green. Unfortunatey its a distorted and unachievable goal for a nation as advanced as ours. When we are misled and lied to by our leaders, they are making fools out of us all!

You are right about the media. For all the oil being moved and related activity going on in ND you don't see or hear that much about it in the main stream media. I'll tell you what if you look at video comming out of there it is a mess. Not necessarily a environmental mess but just dirty. ND is a good place for this because it is so desolate. If hydraulic fracturing comes to southern Illinois things would get busy and change there way of life in a hurry.

I hear ya good talking to you to. I see a lot of those guys are making $16 an hour and a lot don't get time and a half for overtime. I think those jobs should be $30 an hour with time and a half for overtime and benefits. If anyone can afford it it's the oil company's.

Check the wages paid to the workers at the Athabasca sand tars. They are located in Alberta. The guys there are making more than the North Dakota guys. Most of us could not afford a house in Fort McMurray. That's Canada for you.
