Does anyone else think it's a huge joke that the board of education has already promoted PM to be superintendent starting July 1, 2014? The bigger joke is Sass is retiring, but has been given a position as an associate superintendent in charge of human resources. What exactly is this board thinking? He's retiring so he'll get that pension and then we'll pay him a hefty salary to shuffle paperwork along with that principal that was quietly outed. Wake up taxpayers, you are being fleeced.

The district sent an email to all 122 families. Whose big idea was this anyway? Did the board come up with this, or did these two dream this up?

She will be worse than Sass! Just read this article. Children need to learn there are consequences for not being responsible. My child has this attitude already. "I don't have to turn my homework in in time" because Peggy Manville syas so!

http://newlenox.patch.com/articles/5-is-the-n...

If I did this when I was a kid I would not be the responsible person I am today.

Manville quote: "And I’m guilty of losing a document and calling over to say I need a copy. As adults we do that all day long." says Manville.

If I did this at my job, I would not have one!

School Board - Don't let this culture continue, It will only get worse for our Children.

Dump Manville! Please.

Peggy becoming Superintendent isn't news. She has a clause in her contract that she would be the next in line or they would have to give her a six figure buyout. However, keeping Sass around is a bit disturbing since they could hire several teachers for what they pay him.

I think the point is they are creating a position for him so he can continue to receive a salary we are all paying while he's cough cough laugh, retired.

Besides that, a lot can happen in two years. They did not even play the field on this one.

Yep, Manville had a clause in her contract (one you NEVER see in the private sector, only stupid school boards get suckered into that moronic clause). If they did not hire her to replace Sass, she got paid 6 figures. So, may as well have her work for the money.

VERY DISTURBING that Sass is being kept on in any capacity. Will he really get a salary on top of his retirement pension? Or, is he still to young to collect on his pension, so the dist. will continue to pay his way?

We need more teachers...classes way way way too crowded. Kids are not learning!!!

We need aids. Special needs kids are not getting the attention they need. One parent's child miraculously improved in thier scores and was told, "they no longer need an aid." Yeah, right.

Sass is working until the end of his contract. Where do you people get this crazy data? Hes not retiring and getting a salary. Wow! Get a clue. No additional salary.

Do you really believe he's not going to stay on after his retirement? They are creating a position for him and paying him the same salary. Why can't Huang train his replacement? Why does Sass need to do that? This board tied the hands of future boards with this one, kind of like when they gave Sass a contract extension long before his contract was up. Anyone who believes he's not going to stay on in his new capacity is kidding themselves. Promoting someone 2 years ahead of time is moronic. What was the rush on this?

So what's the truth Lansing? You always seem to be in the know on what goes on in Dist. 122. Are you saying the original poster is lying? Sass is not staying on after retirement? Please tell us the facts and no double talk.

Usually when one steps down into a lower capacity they do not continue to get the same salary and benefits. It's really disturbing he is going to be making the same doing a lesser job. We are letting excellent teachers go, but we have the money for this? How many associate superintendents does one district need?

You tell me what the truth is. I seem to be in the know, YOU seem to be in the know with the conversation on here. I have know idea on what is happening or what is being done. According to someone here an email was sent, I didnt get it, nor did any friends of mine that I asked this morning. Do you know the terms and conditions of all that went on? I would like to hear and see it and not what is said here. And if it is something that is so bad for the district then what board members voted for it and why. Let them explain. Next April is not to far off.
Good luck Dr Manville

Who on earth would want to stay around after retirement? You people really stretch the rumors on Topix! Grow up! We have an excellent school district and I for one am happy with this adjustment. Smooth transitions are good. I agree with the boards decision.

Many in the public sector do, especially in Illinois. That is why our state is broke. It's called "double dipping." That provides a smooth transition for some of those in the public sector to reap millions in pension funds from you and your children. Isn't that nice? If you've been listening to the news for the last couple of years, you would know how many young "retired" public servants go on to other jobs in government to get another pension all set up. And let's not forget health care. And let's not forget that they don't pay income tax on their pension in Illinois.

They did the same thing with Benton.
