911 operator- New Lenox Fire Department, whats your emergency?

Citizen-My house is on fire

911 operator- Is the fire department in your will or estate sir?

Citizen- WHAT?

911 operator-If you read the letter we sent out the fire district want people to remember them in their wills and estate planning.

Citizen-The fires getting bigger

911 operator- Well sir I understand but thats the rules, we can only go to fires at the homes of people who put us in their wills.

Citizen-Is that what happened on East circle and Francis road?

911 operator-Now your catching on, if were not in your will it goes to the ground but you can still come for flapjacks for free

Citizen-Any suggestions on how to put it out?

911 operator-Try Frankfort or Mokena, chances are they are going to be there anyway and they don,t care about wills or estates

Citizen-You got their number?

911 operator-Hang on sir, I have to put you on hold (click)

911 operator-Mokena fire what your emergency

Citizen-Yeah my house is on fire and the guy from New Lenox said they can,t come unless I put them in my will, can ya help me pal this fire is gettin big

911 operator-Yeah I will send Mokena and Frankfort

Citizen-Oh thank you and I will talk to my estate planner about changing my will to include the fire department, oh does this include ambulance service?

911 Operator-Yep, everything, heart attacks, bee stings, seizures, if you send me a request letter we will send you a list of what we respond to if there is anything left after the fire

Citizen-well I gotta go, my skin is melting and my hair is on fire

one bad thing living in the in these three towns is lincolnway dispatch. i called before requested the police for a follow up and they refused. be advised licoln-way dispatch is a private company over seen by the three towns . if you request the police they should not deney you. these are non-police employees. overseen by brad veerman who had several jobs in twenty years. SEND THE POLICE WHEN REQUESTED

I also had an experience like yours. I requested a police officer for a non-emergency. I explained the problem very clearly 3 times and they sent a fire truck. The person taking the calls was really stupid and/or poorly trained. Thank God it was not an emergency. I was surprised to find out that 911 dispatch was not in New Lenox and not part of our local departments. Scary.

I am also a resident and have called the police/fire department a few times. The whole 3 times I have called, 2 of the times I spoke with a woman who sounded like she barely graduated pre-school and had a smoking habit, I had to repeat what was wrong several times before she got the picture. Thank god my house wasn’t being robbed or one of my kids was dying. The other time I called the same women answered the phone but was so confused another women took over and spoke with me. The #2 women was extremely helpful and nice. One of my friends is a dispatcher, but not for Lincolnway Dispatch, and he explained that a lot of the people that work there are not the brightest. Apparently they lack any type of disciplinary action. They keep people employed who have been in trouble or screwed up numerous times. I myself can’t wait till the next village meeting because something needs to be done cause the boss/president/director isn’t doing anything to except keeping incompetent idiots employed there.

I think what Roy Desoto was pointing out is the stupid letter sent out by the f.d., not the 911 dispatch. What a joke, send out a letter to the public and ask people to think about putting the fire department in their will while some local business people are making BIG BUCKS year after year at the cost of the taxpayers

Again, bashing the fire department. They are a good group of men and women. The Foundation does a great job equipping the fire trucks with LIFE SAVING equipment. It just seems like everybody on these posts wants to say bad things not only about the fire department, but about everything in New Lenox. You people must be perfect in every way. Must be nice.

You don,t know what you were talking about. They were told last year that what they are doing is against the law and any money they raise must go into the firefighter pension fund and not toward anything else, get it right you cornhole, and any group that burns down as many places as these morons is not a "good group of men and women". Firefghting requires winners at each response at 100 percent or better and these guys are nothing but a farm team from the sticks.

Just wondering why you called 911,
why didn't you call the Non-emergancy number?

No, you are wrong. It seems like you want everyone to think you know the law, but unfortunately, you don't. Check again, and please quit calling names. it just shows how low you really are. They are a great group of men and women. You must be someone who either couldn't get a job in the fire service, or couldn't keep a job in the fire service. If you live in New Lenox, go to a trustee's meeting and tell them what you think instead of going to topix. And if you are going to come back that you have gone to a trustee's meeting and they wouldn't let you speak, then you need to go to the newspapers and use your real name. Oh wait, your topix name says it all.

If you read my post I never said I called 911. I called the non emergency number, the same people who answer the 911 calls also answer the non-emergency number.

Most people have no clue how their municipality is run. The reason is they don't care until it has a direct effect on them. Then it is a crisis. Most people do not want to know and do not want to get involved because they do not want to commit the time and effort.

To have your own dispatch is a great idea. But guess what. It costs a tremendous amount of money to have your own dispatch. Guess what that does it raises taxes. No one wants that. You complain about the services you receive from your police department and fire department but refuse to pay more taxes. You cannot have it both ways. If it bothers you so much get involved. We are all busy. If it bothers you enough to post on Topix take that time you spend posting and reading posts on Topix and get involved. The ball is in your court people. The politicians work FOR YOU. Do something or forever remain silent.

I called one evening after a lightning strike. The operator who took my call was very good, asked the right questions and the crew showed up in about 4 minutes. I sent a nice thank you note to the Chief and Trustees and never received a response.
