Anyone know why? There was no spotted tornado!

The sirens are connected to a sensor that sounds the alarm when there is a rapid change in atmospheric pressure. If a cold front came in quickly and the pressure changed rapidly then the alarm sounds. It is not a person pushing a button when a tornado is witnessed.

I thought the alarm sounded but when I listened carefully, because it was faint, I realized it was a train travelling down the CN line. That could be what you heard. Just a guess though so don't attack me.

Windy posed a fair question. Perhaps you heard them from a different area.

ESDA JOKES is jumping on an imaginary bandwagon because..... The tornado sirens were NOT set off in the Village of New Lenox yesterday.

ESDA is only one of many agencies that can set off the sirens anyway, so don't presume anything.

Didn't hear the siren last night. I haven't heard of any reports of tornados in last nights storms except in MO.

I agree, I did the same thing and realized it was a frieght train. This has happened two or three times the past month.
I have never been able to hear the storm sirens very well at my house. Where are they located?
I live in schoolhouse manor, so I would think if they are on the schools I would hear it better.
Maybe we need more sirens with all the train and auto traffic now in N.L.

There is a siren in Bluestone bay at the park. I think there is also one near Martino Jr. High. Both should take care of Schoolhouse manor. I did not hear any sirens and it is my understanding that if one goes off then they all go in sequence. I'm not sure about that though.

The sirens were going off for at least 3 minutes or longer, I thought it was a raid, not a tornando siren.

I did not hear the train on the night you're talking about, however I did hear it last night. It woke me up as I thought it was a siren until I listened a little more and realized it was a train.

You are correct, they all go off at once

Wow, are all the new trains going to make people not react to the sirens?
Are we all going to just think the siren sound is a train?
Will we even hear it after listening to so many trains in the middle of the night? You get used to certain sounds and you don't even hear it after awhile.

If the siren & trains sound so much alike, this could be another problem with all those trains traveling thru our town.

The sirens go off every time a train goes through town now.

They should just have a big speaker that yells Dorthy, Toto, Antie M, its a twister, its a twister. All kidding aside they set off the sirens so everyone in town could go down the creek and watch the fire department look for another goat. BAAA BAAA BAAA.

They brought Orland in to show the New Lenox fire department what water is. Next week they are going to come back and show them how to put it on a fire. They were using the vacent lot at the lumber yard as an example of what a house looks like after New Lenox tries to put it out.

The F.A.R.T.(Fire Alarm Reset Technicians) team showed up to show NLFD what water is??? They are going to show NLFD how to put out a fire too? Maybe instead, they used the lumber yard to recruit members for the 'FART' team. You need lumber to set off smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler heads. I hope they (Orland) weren't too late returning to town. People at the mall get awfully mad when they're shopping and the fire alarm isn't reset.

The sirens did go off at 10:00 a.m. this morning (Tues., 3/5) for about 3 or 4 minutes. It was NOT a train I heard. I am about three blocks from the fire station and wondered what the heck was going on! What's up with this??
