How much,

Steer clear of the black and orange. You don't coach, so your son will see limited action.

The black and orange I take that is the LW Prospects. I heard their 9u team will be average but the manager is not a baseball guy just a dad coaching the team. That program takes a lot of heat on this web site. Called the Sparks they are filled. Any other ideas let me know thanks.

How much,
Are you living on Oak Park? If so I can highly recommend oak park youth baseball. We have played them quite a few times and I am impressed. As talented as most travel teams out there. And it might be a chance for your boy to play with some kids from his school and meet some friends.
Good luck!

Thank you sox fan but I work in Oak Park. I am the pround owner a subway. So if you are ever in the area stop in. I have heard from people in the area that the Illinois Elite Rhinos have a very good 9u team for next year. Also the Homer Heat have a nice team. Any thoughts on these two programs.

Homer always has a decent program and that Rhino team looks like they know what their doing. I love a good off season training regiment.

If you are going travel, I highly recommend a real "program". Not a "guy doing a team". One where there is a board watching their coaches and the money, etc. the rhinos are in their first year and I think the jury is still out. Organizations that have a travel arm to them is, in my opinion, a better option. Homer heat, new lenox rebels, even orland park.

Thanks again. I think it is just going to be to late to make any of the competitive teams. I looked at homer heats web site and they have 12 kids already. i was told most of the better NL Rebels kids went to the LW prospects and orland park is the B team of the Sparks. What do you know about Upper Deck Cougars.

Every year, less and less kids go to the Prospects from the Rebels. I don't think any left the Rebels at the 9u level this year. The Prospects aren't what they started out as. It's purely a business for him and it's starting to show. It's all about the $$$.

Another option for you is to just play a year of rec ball. Programs like oak park and some others are ever bit, and sometimes better than travel. The program in Palos heights might be the best one in the chicago area. They are unique in that they don't have a full time travel aspect to it so everyone in the community plays in the rec program. For a town of 10,000 to have 700 kids in their program is really amazing,

Depending on where u live and if u are dead set on travel, look at the i80 and niml websites. There are areas where you'll find teams looking for kids.

sorry I only heard that second hand. but thank you. I did heard that they charge a lot of money and only play in weak tournaments. The web site is a crazy PR nightmare. Total over kill. I also they lose a lot of kids each year.

There are a lot of travel teams out there. Some attract better talent than others. The difficult part for parents is being realistic with regards to their kids talent level. It's better that a kid make a "lower talent" team and play the field than make a "higher talent" team and sit the bench.

My personal experience is that the Sparks are the elite team in the area in terms of talent, facilities and coaching. If your kid can make the Sparks, great. If not, there are many other choices out there. Good luck.

Just keep looking for teams, an opening usually happens in early winter for all sorts of reasons. There are some teams out there with only 10 players at the 9u and 10u level, if he has a chance of playing up, look at the teams in Joliet or Shorewood.

Try Top Tier. If you are coming from Texas and your son was playing up in age there, there's a good chance he's good enough to make any team here in Illinois.

So many of these teams throw around the word "elite" like it's going out of style. The fact of the matter is that there are very few, if any, truly elite teams here. Most teams are AAA at best.

Try the 9u Upper Deck Cougars. I know the manager and that team will be one of the best in the area. Practices all year in the dome and dosen't cost alot of money. He's there for the boys. They even have a team bus.

were good (way to go) Sorry to raise the questions it seems a lot of people are upset with each other. Thank you for the advice. I just moved here from Texas last month and my family will be joining me next week. Ben will be 9 next season and he played 10U house ball back home this last year as a 8 year old. He had a great year and a lot of fun. He is a big kid and played shortstop and was asked to pitch a lot. This is our first time with travel baseball. We are just looking for some good advice.

If things don't work out with the Upper Deck 9u team, there might be room on the New Lenox Rebels team.
