Central's moving over to the weaker Red Division with West next year. That should be good for a few more wins and get them back in the playoff picture. It also means that West and Central will play each other every year. Stagg is going to the Blue since their enrollment is now larger than Centrals. Hud seems O.K. but I would have thought they could have atracted a better candidate with the facilities and location of LWC. Then again, they did that a few years ago with the guy they brought up from down South and it ended up being a disaster. He did manage to take nearly all of the red out of the uniforms except for the helmets on which he destroyed decades of tradition by disgarding the Alabama-esque uniform numbers on the sides.

Sorry Knight but weaker division is hard to say. Central opens with Sandburg and East next year. That's 0 and 2. And if you look at that conference you have playoffs team in West, Thornton, Andrew, LW north, And Bradley sitting there. They by easily could lose all those games. They get freebies in t ridge and t wood but what's different then joliet schools. I know the Brook and East are a step above them all but after that it's all relevant. In fact I know North, West, Andrew, and tths all were Jr heavy last year, was Central? Be careful what you for, you just may get it...

What I want to ask is will people jump on him if they lose those games? I think every HS coach in all major sports ( football, basketball, baseball) should get at least 5 years to build and then start judging a bit.

I do agree on be careful what you wish for, teams dramaticaly change every year as far as talent, but Central did beat North in OT week one last year and lost to Sandburg 7-3. Central also has a 30 Juniors and 1 outstanding Freshmen returning next year along with a very talented Sophmore team moving up. They also have had to compete with HF every year and they have done an outstanding job rebuilding that program over the last 6-7 years. But in the end you never know who you can end up against in the play-offs. You gotta get there first.
And yes it does take time to build, but when you have 3 out of 4 schools making it to play-offs and solid programs, with solid coaching staffs, and your "Mother" district school is not getting there, thats when you have to start questioning administration. But it seems to be now that administration might have heard enough. Hopefully....

Good points there LTA, but Central lost most of their D. And that was its strongest part of the team. If we just look at the district schools now,

East is east! They will be dominate.

North returns maybe the best player at any school in the south burbs in Julian Hylton, and was very jr heavy last year. Plus their sophs blasted Centrals. They lost to central in OT and north had its best player get hurt first play, and with a Soph QB making debut.

West return almost every player except the big boy to ND. West has 4 to 7 d1 prospects on D alone. Plus there QB and RB and OL. Central will be in trouble there. p

My prediction in year 1 is 3-6. They lose to east and the burg, also lose to North, andrew, West, and Thornton. They beat t wood and t ridge and Bradley.

But I think after that Coach will build Up a winner but next year, it's not gonna happen.

4-7 D1 prospects? Hmmmm.. I hope your right, would love to see that. But I have to disagree on record. I think they will go 6-3 with loses to East (like you said, dominate) and I think they will lose to West. You are correct on good defense and if Montalvo stays healthy, the Javi express should put out a great year. And I think they could take a tough loss to Bradley or Andrew, they will handle Sandburg. JMO though and hope they all are in the play-offs.

North is also losing most of its large offensive line as graduating seniors.

You are correct, North won 20-13 with Central dominating second half.

This will actually work out great for HUD. According to the article he has 30 months until he retires. If he coaches during his last three years of employment, he will get a nice stipend right before he retires. These last three years are key because the average of these final three years is what is used when figuring out a HUD's pension. The extra $8,000 or so he'll get for his coaching will equal an extra $6,000 or so a year in retirement for the rest of his life.

Good for HUD...bad for taxpayers.

Could work out great for the football team too with some quality and quantity of coaching. As far as tax dollars go, talk the teachers union and the great state of Illinois about that.

Define quality coaching? does that 100% mean they have to be a proven head coach? or older, or have a great past record? Because times are different now? Guys cannot jump around schools very easy anymore, so maybe young guys are the way to go. Assistant coach guys that will work hard and give 100% effort for 10 to 20 years.

Now sometimes it comes down to staright TALENT! right now, in 7A Cebntral doesnt have it, or not enought of it. They have some good players, but not rnough to win a lot of games.

You are absolutely right! Times are different now. Who knows, younger, older, thats sometimes why changes are made. And I do agree with the younger guys, but first they got to get hired by the district as full time, and thats easier said than done.
And I think they do have the talent. Win a state championship? Maybe, maybe not. They need a GROUP of coaches that can work with them to bring that talent out and put them in the best place for them to succeed. Thats what coaches are suppose to do, no matter how old and no mater what sport. And that my friend DOES come with experience. Something that the younger guys can also watch and learn.

Moving over to a "weaker" red division? I'm definitely happy for Central being lined up in a conference that is filled with 7A schools but LWC should have done better in the Blue. West made playoffs with only 1200 students (5A) competing with the 7A schools in the Red conference. It simply proves that West success is due to their OUTSTANDING coaching which is what LWC was clearly lacking.

You look at East and they have a "program"! Kids want to come and play hard hard. Graduating or returning, they compete at a high level every single year. For Central to build this over the next 30 months with the coach, they first need to keep the athletes from leaving to the private the schools. You hear the statistic, we only lost 7 kids to the other private schools, but the reality is, those are normally the BEST athletes. So only time will tell, will they be 3-6 next year maybe, but if they are 3-6 in three years, then highering someone so close to retirement probably wasn't the right move. I don't know if it was a rumor or not, but the word was that the Provi coach applied. He might have been a good way to build a program.

Lincoln Way West should be a force to be reckoned with in 2013. With superb coaching, more school spirit than I've seen any where, and a strong core of returning players. With the likes of Alex and Andrew Gray, JavierMontalvo, josh Hilt, Griffin Sullivan, Brennan Mulroe, and Jake Robbins as strong and play off experienced leaders, they may be unstoppable. They also have an axe to grind with being ripped off against JCA. Look for this group to take no prisoners. As far as Central goes, you can bring them down to a smaller division, but not a weaker division. Central has no stand out players and no experience in play offs. Good luck to them and their new coaching staff, but I believe this town will continue to have west side pride.
