Why doesn't NLSD 122 use the INTERNET to let us know who our kids have as a teacher this coming school year, instead of wasting money by MAILING the information. Also, we don't need 9,000 letter mailed to us during the school year to let us know how much money we still owe for the OUTRAGEOUS school fees. I find it funny that we are paying so much in school fees, because we are broke, but yet they don't make any effort to cut back. Who is in charge of these things? They need to get with reality and use today's technology.

It is fast and simple. Each teacher post on their own web page the student's names in their classroom. If you don't have a computer, you can go to the library and use theirs for free. Another option, drive to the school and ask the office secretaries. This saves time, money and effort. No brainer.

45 cents to mail this nonsense to all New Lenox families is deplorable. It all adds up. We are trying to save money? How?

Another way to save money is through the PTO. All the fundraisers they hold should be put to better use. We don't need anymore playground equipment, etc. I would gladly participate in the fundraisers, buy candy bars, etc. if I was told the money was going toward school registration fee reduction. Kids should go house to house or whatever and sell their candy bars to support the schools, not a baseball team, etc. If parents want their kids in sports - they should pay all the fees out of their own pockets and stop bugging people to help.

We should have voted yes in the past referendum. I told everyone that the school is going to get their money no matter what. The older people in town don't want their taxes raised a small amount for the schools. However, when I first moved here I did not have kids and my taxes went to help their kids out - time for payback. The reason the old timers houses are still worth anything is because of the school district. Raise our property taxes a little bit and have EVERYONE in New Lenox pay for the schools and get our registration fees reduced down to a normal amount.

Absolutely not! The majority of the community did use their brains and voted against the referendum. Thank God. The issue is in their spending. They collect enough in taxes to support their budget and administration salaries.

Yes, many people still do not have a computer so that's not an option. Expecting them to drive to the library and/or school costs .45 in gas, so either they pay it in taxes or pay the gas. They may get a discount on postage if it's mass mailing and since it's a school.

Do we need to save money? Yes, this is not the answer.

BTW - the fun fair makes very very little considering the amoung of time and effort put into it. Nothing is donated, vendors make good money...whomever is running this thing is not thinking big enough, in terms of donations, local funding, etc.

Many people still don't have a computer? More people have one than not. Also, you can WALK to the library, get a ride from a friend, etc. These are all excuses. If you can make it to New Lenox Days then you can get to the library. Get real, most people have access to the web some way or another. People seem to be all over FACEBOOK AND MY SPACE with no problem.

We have to start somewhere. Maybe she should hire a lawyer to figure out if this district is really ripping us off. Any lawyer mommy or daddies out there that attend NLSD 122 district? Up for some charity work?

Get real. These kiddies go to the Taj Mahal everyday. If the boards would be realistic about their schools we wouldn't have Lincoln Way West gathering dust. How much was that? 70 million? Let's see... if you divide 70 million into 45,000 residents that comes to 1555 dollars per person. That's kids too. So my tab for that school is 75 grand. Man I could sure use that money right now.

Yeah, I don't think each teacher posting the names of each student in their class on the internet is a good thing. That raises privacy issues. They mail registration packets one time a year, big woopy dippy doo on the postage. I think there are probably bigger things that could be cut than griping about a once a year mailing. Geez people get a grip.
How about the bus drivers don't leave the buses running while waiting for kids to come out of the school? How about bus drivers don't do personal errands with the buses on taxpayer time? Take a look at Jewel parking lot on any given school day and you will find a bus or 2 there.

PRIVACY ISSUES? What the hell are you talking about? As soon as the kids find out what teacher they have it is all over the internet through facebook, e-mail, etc. WAKE UP. Also, add this to the stuff you mentioned and a whole lot of money can be saved. Think outside the box for cripe sake! Each of these issues can be changed and add up to big savings.

I will assume any bus at a store did not drive out of the way to go shopping, most likly stopping in route for a quick shop or maybe the driver works there in between school.

As far as the bus running, I don't see or hear that except when the bell rings or it is freezing cold outside. you wouldn't want your baby coming out of a warm school to an ice cold bus would you?

There could be an electronic registration with parents filling out forms online, printing and mailing any docs for doctor/dental/etc.

Parents should also be able to get teacher info and bus schedule online by using their childs id.

The district just needs to get with the tech. avail. today and use it.

I agree with Mom of two. Every student has an id, use it to get classroom info. Cuts have to be made somewhere, why not start with the mass mailings. Every little bit adds up.

Why not start with renegotiating the absurd administration contracts.

I have a kid at LW and one starting junior high. I'm glad they're out of the K-6.
My kids used to come home all torqued up about these darned fund raisers, with stars in their eyes over winning a freaking radio. I despise how the school tries to pimp out our kids over these fundraisers. We just throw them away. Not to be a killjoy, but my family, friends, etc simply cannot afford these fundraisers! I cannot in good faith ask them to buy wrapping paper when they can hardly afford groceries. We just paid $275 for junior high. A whole whopping $10 savings for paying before the end of July. I shudder as I write this as to what I have to pay LW. Thank God we had drivers ed last year.

It's extortion, plain and simple. The school needs to be held accountable for covering all educational costs from the approved tax payer budget. Period!

Parents, stop the maddness! Protest & don't PAY!
YOU need to be the adult here, obviously the school administration & school board is not!

The administration contracts are absolutely absurd, there's no argument there. This schoolboard isn't going to do a damn thing about that though, they gave it to them. I'm sure there are many ways this district can start cutting costs, but they don't. They seem to think it's easier to get more money from us instead.

we are screwed either way. Just wait until school starts. The notes from the teachers and/or room moms will start asking for $5 here and $10 there for party supplies. And the field trips! We paid around $12 last year for a field trip I don't even remember. Many families cannot afford this. The craziness needs to stop. But how can you say 'no' to your kid over a field trip?

Hey, don't give "Mom of Two" all the credit, I created this post and said it first!

Also, turn off the damn LIGHTS at LINCOLNWAY WEST! How much is this costing us? The football field lights up the whole town!!! What a frickin joke.
