Where and when is this taking place? The principal should be notified and they most certainly can and should deal with it. If not, go higher up if you can. What school/grade are you dealing with?

First, go the school in person and request a meeting with the Principal. You could also go to a local newspaper schools hate bad press. Better yet since your cild was actually hurt and you have dentist bills to prove it file a police report that should get there attention plus the bully's parents will be involved then. They might even offer to pay the bill.

Since you said your child had to have dental work in the range of $300, my guess would be that you have already been to the school office. I would think that you had to pick up your child from school to take care of the damage done - thus, the bill. It seems that you said you have had no luck with Bentley and now you are saying you can't even get the Assistant Superintendent to return your calls revolving around this? Maybe this should be on the next school board agenda - does anyone know what recourse this mom has when the taxpayer's employees are not returning calls for something so serious?

I know of a mom who's son was constantly followed home (not done on school property), harrassed in his own yard, disrespectful to the mom when she came out to deal with it (who is raising such monsters!) She did contact the school and they expelled the student, got his parents involved, etc. Bentley seems to be in denial for some reason. I would go to Sass....he needs some good press.

Quit calling - go there make your presence known! Let them know you mean business and want this taken care of! Your child was physically harmed by a bully file a police report. There are laws against what happend to you child. Protect your child do the right thing fight for them and quit hiding behind the phone. As a mother I would not let anyone lay a hand on my child!

Had the same issue with my child once at LW. The bully was a jock and almost got away with it until we started setting up meetings with the deans. One on one is way better. Might as well realize now that parents must get involved to make a difference in our schools. You can't leave it up to the administators and teachers to resolve the issues. They mainly deal with the ones that cause the greatest concern or time. And believe me they don't want parents in their buildings..and sounds like from past articles, school board members either unless it is giving them praise.

Yes, parents must be more involved. It all starts in the home. In this "Blame someone else" society we live in, everyone seems they want to stay clear of any trouble and look the other way. Teachers and administrators are paid to teach school, and yet they do go above and beyond to teach our kids about life with lots of love and care. And as in most professions there are a few bad apples. And as we have learned from the past 3 months it is not a school board members job to get involved until it is brought in front of the board. And when it comes to teachers, administrators and school board members, most of them have children in our school district and they have their own families to take care of also. We have these small little phrases that we love to use, "Not my job", "Did'nt see anything", "I don't know", and most of all "NOT MY KID". Teachers will someday have to be like doctors and have malpractice insurance. Because someday some parent is going to sue for not teaching their kid something. It all starts at home.

Ya tell your kid to stop being a sally and stick up for himself first. If the other kid is bigger and the beatings continue take action but at least your child as respect for himself and did not have to have his mommy come take care of him. i had a kid bulling me when i was young and my dad told me deal with it and hit the kid back. I took a bat and went after him with it which is probably not the best course of action but the kid never bullied me around anymore. how many years ago would our fathers and parents laughed at our sorry selfs if we came home crying of a bully. they would have given us a beating worse then the bully himself.

if parents do go to the school though the school should have the responsibility to take action and not ignore the situation.

Use the law. Use words. Violence is not the answer! What if you send a child out to defend itself and it goes terribly wrong. Defending your life, yes fight back. What if your child used a weapon like a baseball bat and hurt or killed another. Or was killed because they were sent to defend their self. They are children and need guidance that is adult assisted and humane.

Remember Rebecca Demorney in this movie...when the bully picked on a kid she was watching, she cornered th bully, grabbed him by the collar, and scared the holy crap out of him...very tempting, isn't it?
Bullies are usually abused at home...this kid probably has lots of problems with his parents and is lashing out at others to feel secure. Don't worry, he'll grow up to be a big loser that's for sure.

Agreed. When we send our children to school we expect the adults in charge are watching out for all of the children's safety. We send our children to school to be educated, not defend themselves. They shouldn't have to defend themselves from anyone at school. They should feel safe and secure. Maybe if this little bullies parents were more active in his/her social/ school life they might know what their kid is really like. Of course there is that chance that they do know and just don't care. The school says they have a zero tolerance policy, but how often do they actually follow through with it? Telling a child to defend themselves is not enough. The adults involved need to do something to stop this. By simply telling a child defend yourself and going on about your day is giving the bully license to keep doing what they doing. Little childhood bullies grow up to be adult bullies and then we end up supporting some of them because their behavior gets them in prison. If these kinds of issues are addressed now while they are young, their behavior can be corrected. Parents and school need to work together to address bullying behavior. If I was this mom I would be angry too. Every parent deserves a timely phone call back. Sounds like this is not the case here. What a shock~ NOT!

You are absolutely correct. The child should not have to defend himself to correct the problem. Unfortunately, if it does come down to him finally having enough and striking back, then he too is in trouble - how is that fair? Where did this occur and when during the day? Who was supposed to be keeping an eye on this kid and why wasn't it being done? What recourse for the administrators who didn't feel the need to follow through? When the bullies see that there is no recourse, that is when they keep on going! Was this kid reported in the past or was this a first incident?

As a retired teacher, I'll tell you to use the proper channels available at the school. They'll usually bend over backwards to avoid bad PR.

As a parent I'll tell you to call the local police.

As a fellow citizen, I'll urge you to use a civil tongue and not gum up this forum with vulgar, coarse phrases. There's nothing that turns my attention away from a person - especially a woman - as profanity.
