New Lenox Mike: you can't respond to the accusations? Makes you look guilty in my book.

Maybe someone should go to school and ask little Mike if his dad hits him.

well said sad. More important things to worry about than kids baseball. By the way Chuck the president of the Rebels doesn't work and hasn't for years and is in control of a big money account for that organization but that must be ok by you since you are in that organization. Not accusing him or the prospects guy of anything but at least get your facts straight. Besides many people for a lot of teams are out of work or have filed bankruptcies these days so that's nothing to ashamed of. So what and good for them if they have spouses who have have decent jobs and can still support the families.
Yeah, but the Rebel financials are public knowledge - the problem with Korbel is that he has NEVER shared what he does with the money with the parents of the team. They have no idea the breakdown of what they have paid and what the fundraisers have earned - that is a big problem...anyone who doesn't share and has been caught stealing from another organization should be watched carefully. Please don't ever compare Marty McGreal with Steve Korbel - one has character, the other TALKS about character and shows none. One is for the kids and the other is for his own selfish desires. Marty is a stand up guy, Steve is a snake in the grass...be careful or your wallet will be slithering away.

Rebels financials are not public knowledge. To the board members maybe but not public knowledge. I never saw anything about the funds when my son played there nor did I care. Again, I never accused anyone of any wrongdoing or compared any people just saying the poster was condemning one person because he is unemployed. Who cares and not mine or anyone elses business whether they are employed or not. Just wrong to accuse someone of financial mismanagement just because the person is unemployed.

All three of my boys played travel baseball on different teams from the New Lenox area. They are all grown up now. One plays at a D2 college, the other plays at L.W. Central and one lost interest in plying. I never questioned or thought a coach was stealing funds. I never put much thought into that. I was more concerned about the training my boys were receiving vs where the money was going. I have heard of Steve Korbel, but don't know him. I have noticed that his teams are winning baseball games and tournaments all over the midwest. I hope the jealousy has not led you guys to questioning funds because the man is out of work.

Well, I don't know what kind of team your sons played on, but every respectable team I know about puts together a budget and how much it is for each player and I am talking about baseball, softball, soccer, etc. Then the team works together to fundraise some of that cost. It is crazy to me that I would be told by a coach that it would cost me $1500 a year for my child, but I wouldn't be told/shown what that would be going towards. Who has money like that? Also, I assure you that there is no jealousy towards the Prospects. It is the last team my child would ever try out for and not because of the parents or the kids who are very talented. I just wouldn't let my son play for a coach that is not known to be trustworthy. Oh, and even some of the Prospect parents weren't impressed with their winning record last year. Playing in tournaments that are known to be easy and have only 2 other teams in the tournament isn't something to pat yourself on the back about or teach your children to be better at the sport. It's when you play in the tough tournaments with 15 other really good teams and win that tournament that you walk away with a sense of really being a great team. Korbel has done his talented players no justice putting them in such weak tournaments just so he can write about his winning season. And when you go into the biggest tournament of the season (World Series) with kids off of other teams because you worry that you can't win with the kids you have been playing with all season - what are you telling the kids that have been on your team all season - that you don't believe in them. The players and families on the Prospects deserve more than that and that is just my opinion. They are a VERY talented group of boys and that should never be questioned.

All of this talk on here really is pretty sad! I have 3boys who enjoy this sport and are actually very good!(and NO it's just not my opion) before someone jumps down my throat...we've been on 2 teams for travel at this point and i have seen on both teams..if youre "friends of the coach" youve made the team even if the talent isnt there it's sad you are takeing a spot from a kid who deserves it..It has come down for my family trust No one and be cautious for youre child's sake! No one worried about this years back they went out and played the game...

Yeah & Wow,

I respect everyone's opinion. No one is right or wrong here. The families on Korbel's team have to decide if they feel there is a problem with the finances, or unethical running of the team to question it, or move on. It's really no others teams business or concern how they operate or handle their finances. The time and energy needs to be concentrated on working with the young players to get them ready for the H.S. Level. Remember one thing, in a few years you will all be sitting next to each other when your son's are playing H.S. ball. It will be ackward at first, then you will appologize to each other. I witnessed it.

At this point, why does this matter to you what happened? Why bring up something that had nothing to do with you?
Leave the kid(s) out of the discussions, they can't and shouldn't have to defend themselves. A true parent makes mistakes,(and I don't agree with hitting) but others shouldn't continually bring it up. I'm sure you haven't been a perfect parent.

I agree with you about the judeing part of steve it's a over kill on some people's part let kids play baseball and see how good ur kids are! Now the part i dont agree with is Prospect step up and play some local teams some of your room mates you go to school with) Stop playing teams you know you will beat and brag about later

Must be lots of jealous folks here since that guys teams win all over the place yet there are some people in this town that still despise him. hmmm

By the way my neighbor, whose kid plays on their 10u team this year, laughed when I told him about these posts and said he doesn't even control all the funds that another coaches wife who is an accountant or something does all the books and report filing. I guess if you repeat the same lies over and over, sadly, some might believe they are true.

Keep living in a dream world. He has the worst reputation around and we aren't just talking New Lenox. Someone can't have such a bad reputation in the WHOLE travel baseball group and not have done some shaddy things. I assure you, it is 100% true that he stole from parents on one of his teams. Yeah, so jealous. Go look at the tournaments that he has entered his teams into this year...another soft year. Look at the fact that he had to get players from Indiana. Too funny. Nobody is jealous. It's just fun to talk about such a shady guy who likes to talk about character. I also know for a fact that there are many parents that aren't happy with the way the finances are being handled. I know those parents. Also, I have never talked bad about the players, the team, or the parents. Like I said before, they are a very talented group of boys.

I think its great that everyone has a beef with the Prospects....except the Prospect parents!! The Prospects have one of the highest player retention rates in the area. And funny, they are not on here complaining about the money...you all are! Do you think parents would waste money in this economy?? You don't give alot of credit to a team that is 133-22. I guess it is all just run by idiots, with idiots for parents? Yea, okay...keep talking trash...and they will keep winning tournaments and games.

Nope, no beef with the Prospects - just the awful human being that is their coach.

The Rebels are a registered 501(c)(3) not for profit. Accordingly all of the Rebels financial information is made public in its filings to the IRS every year. Further, due to the size of the organization, it has an independent audit of its books every year by an independent CPA firm. Search the public records online and you can get all you need. The Prospects advertise as a non profit, but I can find no public records for them. something is fishy

The prospects king pin's son is a sophomore on the LWC Varsity Baseball Team. He is not that great of a player, and is very small and weak. How did he make the team? How did he get a starting position on the team? It does not make sense. Possibly politics played a role?

Think what you want of the King Pin, I am certainly not a a fan, and not going to defend him but, his son is a great kid, a very heady, and better than average baseball player. Actually he is also an excellent hitter even for his stature.

So say what you want of the Dad but in spite of him he's a good kid!
