Firearms laws in the state of Illinois are extremely tight. An individual must obtain a FOID before being able to do anything related to firearms, including the purchase ammunition. A FOID is a Firearm's Identification card. Even with a FOID, it is completely illegal to carry a handgun of any sort concealed or not. Other specifications to firearms laws may differ from city to city within Illinois. The state of Illinois does not restrict the lower levels of government from creating their own laws for guns.

For example, all firearms in the city of Chicago must be registered with the Chicago Police department. In addition, the city of Chicago does not allow the registration of handguns whatsoever. Consulting with your municipal laws regarding firearms laws is important, especially in the state of Illinois. Individuals with a FOID may only keep their firearm in their place of living. Carrying a firearm concealed or not may only be done in order to transport to a place of firearms repair, target range, or place of hunting for those with a hunting license. While carrying, the firearm must be unloaded and carried in a case designed for the firearm.

Our gun laws are insane. Ban handguns such as Chicago did....Its done wonders for their crime rate...Wait a minute, Detroit did this too. Stupid. Concealed carry would make a lot of criminals think twice or maybe just stay in Chicago

You cannot have a fully automatic assault rifle that is illegal in all 50 states. Its a proven fact when there is concealed carry crime goes down. Where is Cole County but I guarantee it could of been a ak47 but was not fully automatic. I believe a felon can have hunting rifle but thats it. Like Chicago you cannot have a handgun to protect your house so if someone breaks in and you shoot them you go to jail because you cannot protect yourself.

OR...Make NUTS people like you get ticked off and shoot someone needlessly. Why not let people carry guns into bars as well. Drinking and carrying a good makes good sense to me! I know, some IDIOT on another post wants TEACHERS to have guns in the classroom! Some people are just OUT TO LUNCH.

It was an SKS chinese assault rifle and any person convicted of a felony is not supposed to be allowed to posess any firearm.
But in Mattoon Il.61938 that law only applies to those who can't afford to pay off the SA or refuse to tell on others.

Me nuts, I dont think so. I was just making a comment. I dont hang out in bars, shoot people, and I am not a teacher. Actually if you check the news and do some research you will see there is no epidemic of people needlessly shooting people EXCEPT in Chicago. Law abiding citizens that carry guns dont go around shooting people.
Now sheep like yourselves that sit around and wait for govt or someone else to tell you what is acceptable or safe..thats dangerous.
As for being out to lunch, thats a great idea, but I have too much work to do so we will have to go another time

Why would someone not want to carry a weapon in the Chicago school district?

Great point, Igotta.
I can't remember the last time a person was shot to death in Chicago. It must've been at least..........four or five hours ago.
That poor kid that was killed north of Fenger was shot, wasn't he? Oh wait, he was kicked and then beaten to death with a 2X4.
Hey, let's ban shoes and lumber in Chicago. That'll work, won't it?
Idiots!

So the Chinese assualt rifle was semi automatic so it was legal. Well if he is a felon and has a gun call the state police. Do not deal with your mayberry police.

Right to carry says it all Gun Laws only work for law abiding citizens. Just becuase you would have the right to carry dosent mean there would be no gun laws. I do know that I would be able to shoot down someone attempting harm or rob me though.

This is a little off topic, but so funny I have to say it. Remember when the NRA put out the scare tactic that if Obama becomes president, he would ban guns? All the right-wing dings believed the NRA and ran out bought guns. It was actually brillant on the NRA's part, because the tactic worked and they had the highest gun sales ever! Well, what do you know? Obama IS PRESIDENT and we can still owe guns! Imagine that. The fact of the matter is Obama said during his election that you can have guns, but stricter laws to get one. FAUX news - once again. Will we ever stop listening to garbage and rely on facts?

I wanted to save up and buy a Browning Automatic Rifle 1918, preferably one of the last revisions, and I don't mind if it's not full auto, it will probably just be a display piece. Does anyone know what it would be classified as?

And how can any community ban guns, is that a violation of ones rights, and telling people what they can or cannot own or do?
