They may be old, but even according to NYS, they were the most accurate. It's a shame that they're so old and that parts can't be gotten for them.

"Obviously sending us machines that don't work is unacceptable,” said William Biamonte, Nassau's Democratic elections commissioner. "It calls into question how realistic their plan is for full replacement of the lever machines by 2009. I don't think it's going to happen.”

The most obvious thing about this situation is total incompetence of our local officials when it comes to getting anything done. They are waste management experts. They manage to find every way possible to waste our tax dollars.

Doesn't really matter. We were given no choices to begin with. They, who will become president, are all the same. And we are all doomed to die a horrible death in poverty along with bad healthcare.

40-50 million people vote for their favorite singers on American Idol. Somehow, that system seems to work. Why can't we use the telephone to vote for elected officials? Corruption, thievery and politics. How can officials rig an election if we voted over the phone? Where would all of the political cronies go if the Boards of Election were dismantled? Why save millions by having a phone voting system when the politicians can argue and waste millions over voting machines? How can people be bused to voting locations if they don't have to leave their homes? What about the people who don't have phones? They won't be able to vote. It goes on and on. The bottom line is we are captives of power hungry politicians who are only interested in being re-elected. If any politician was truly serious about implementing an electronic voting system we would have already had one. The hanging chad debacle was an embarrassment for this country.

If people can press a lever, why can't they push a button or turn a wheel on a telephone?

Because the politicians want to control the process.

If less people visit a polling place to vote, it's more likely that the party will prevail by encouraging their cronies to visit the polls. How can the politicians control the vote if every household can cast a vote by telephone?

How else can party officials approach a reporter and say, "I'm prepared to announce that all legislators will be re-elected." There would be no need for such a scenario with an electronic voting system. Therefore, all of the power hungry party leaders would be useless.

The system is broken and corrupt and we're all hostages of hooligans disguised as politicans.

Back in the 70s & 80s I was first a poll watcher and then a Democratic Committeeman.
It's nice to see that the old fashioned Eisenhower era lever voting machines are the most secure voting machine.
Computers can be hacked; and without a paper trail; there is no proof!
That's why adding macines are still on the market & some calculators print on paper tape!

read between the lines, the county will need to hire a few consultants and it should cost about $400 Million with lots of trips around the world to review voting machines.

They'll need to focus on vote counting machines in Tahiti, Hawaii, and Bali, with a fact finding stop in Monte Carlo.!
