This is a great picture. It brings back so many good memories. I caught the train there many times some 65 years ago for my trips to Barking. I believe the fare was 5 cents. There was a book stand next to the station that sold candy and comic books. This was a real highlight of the week to visit New Kensington for shopping and a movie. Parsec Sam Thanks for the picture and wonderful memories.

I loved that train station,I remember the whole town came out to see the Actress,Alexis Smith and her husband waving to all of us from the back of the train. That was a long time ago, I forgot how old I was then. I loved that town it was so nice, and everyone knew everyone that lived there. It was a great town.

I was there that day, too. Are you related to Millie Ameris? |

Yes, Millie Ameris is my sister she was there at the train station with me that day. Who are you I was so surprised to hear from someone from New Kensington. I graduated in 1951 from Ken Hi
Yes Millie is my sister she was there that day at the station. I also have a sister Dorothy, they called her "Tootsie" very pretty girl, she still lives in PA. I was so happy to hear from someone from New Ken. I graduated from New Ken Hi School in 1951. I flew back on the plane and Eddie Adams who was in my homeroom with me was on that same plane, He won the Pulitzer Prize for photography. He since passed away I read. We both were on our way to our 50th Class Reunion. Tom Berlinski took pictures of our 1951 Reunion, however, he sent me the wrong tape, Has anyone in New Ken. have a tape of our 1951 Class Reunion? I would love to have it.Please let me know who you are would love to hear from you again. Thank you so much. |

Hello Maryann, I went to school with Tootsie, class of 56. I knew your brother Jim but had no idea that Tootsie had sisters. I often talked to your father who frequented Joe Larussa's fruit market on 10th st. One of your brother Jim's sons went to school with one of my children at St. Joe's in Natrona. That's the last time and place I saw and talked to him. I remember waiting for the train at the station that took us to Kennywood every year. |

After reading your other posts, it must be the same Millie. She lived next door to us and is a way was related through marriage. Have lots of good memories of her and hope she has the good life that she deserves. It was a high point of my day when she walked into our house. Such a really nice and funny person. By the way, my name is Ruth. I'm surprised to hear this also, hope to hear about Millie. |

Dear Ruth: So nice to hear back from you. Millie's married name was Dreon. She was married to Nello Dreon, who passed away years ago. He had a brother Oliver, Millie had three daughters, her oldest daughter passed away over a year ago. It was so sad. Millie resides in Georgia, and her two other daughters are both school teachers. Before that she lived in Knoxville, Tenn. What is your last name? I'am sure Millie would like to remember you. We always talk about the good old days in New Kensington.
