TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I would like to applaud the four school board members and the Daily Iberian for giving them the opportunity
To respond to the recent accusations of others in regard to RACISM. Why is it when certain people do
Not get their way, racism seems to always become an issue and the race card is played to get themselves attention.
Why can't we have just School Board Members Not White & Black Members. Why not concentrate on what you were elected to do.
I guess we should start call the four black members that voted against Ms. Jones SEXIST. Why should it be a Black Man and not
A Black Woman whom was more than qualified for the job.
When certain individuals stop feeling sorry for themselves, start acting like mature adults and put the education of our children
In front of their own personal agenda, maybe, just maybe we can have a decent society and people will
Stop playing the race card. This is America and all true citizens are Americans, not Black Americans ,
Not White Americans, JUST Americans. Start acting as such…

I've been teaching in Iberia parish for over 20 years. It's an excellent parish to teach in, with many progressive, effective programs being implemented yearly. But I do agree with both you... Ms. Jones, while very intelligent and competent in some areas, was denied this promotion because the other person was better qualified, not because of racism. Just as a person's race should never be used in a punitive manner, neither should it be used for "a magic carpet ride" to success.

For many years, the Iberia Parish School Board had plenty of representation from the black community. Mr. James Russell and Mr. Hamilton both did excellent jobs in Student services and as Assistant Superintendent. I have a great deal of respect for these 2 gentlemen. Mrs. Ausberry has also been a very good supervisor. Pam Landry is a fantastic, positive, visionary principal. Look at almost any level, and you will see evidence that racism is not rampant in the Iberia Parish school system. Evidently, Ms. Jones simply did not have the qualities needed for the position she was seeking.
