We can all tell from the Abbeville paper's article that Michelle is passionate about animals since she "had a tear in her eye" when she watched the dogs being gassed. We know that she got the job because she is on the same page as the police jurors--wanting to kill the dogs quickly. Why can't a person adopt a dog from the pound as stated? Is it because they don't want anyone seeing the bad situation the dogs are held in?

They are euthanizing the dogs with a gas chamber, plus the pound is overrun with pit bulls, that will never be adopted because people don't want to get killed by these vicious animals.

You can adopt dogs and cats from the pound but it is necessary to go through Vermilion Animal Aid which is a good thing because not everyone who wants a pet is suited to own one ...and they screen the potential adoptive homes. The animals are housed in adequate facilities now, which could not be said just a few short years ago. They also need volunteers to foster animals until they can be placed into good homes, which also saves lives. You can find more info on how to adopt from there by going to petfinder.com and typing in your zipcode...

MELISSA SHOULD BE FIRED. VERMILLION PARISH SHOUDL BE ASHAMED. THEY KILLED 19 DOGS YESTERDAY. SOME OF THESE HAD BEEN ACCEPTED BY RESCUE GROUPS. VERMILLION PARISH ADMINISTRATION BETTER WAKE UP--MASS KILLING FOR NO REASON, GAS CHAMBERS. PEOPLE AREN'T GOING TO TOLERATE THIS MUCH LONGER. ANY LONGER IN FACT. THIS BACKWOODS, INHUMANE WAY OF THINKING MUST STOP.

We will have to tolerate it a bit longer. At least until Butaud is no longer the president, and until we have enough votes to finally ouster Moresi.

There have been several comments made about the new director and the chamber. But isn't there 2 sides to every story. The new director was hired in April, I believe. She took on a big task since there were already so much bad press about this place already. I went by and actually could take a breath, before when entering the place was horrible. In speaking with her (instead of judging) she has very responsible 5 year plan and was going to turn the place around. But making changes in government takes time I should know. She should be given support and using the gas chamber is still legal but not popular. Maybe she has made a bad dicision but haven't we all. But there are groups that will not talk about anything but negative and do not ask her what things she has done to ensure the animals get attention. These rescue groups put lies out there and say the animal are vet by the rescue groups but when I called the local group, she said the male was not vaccinated or neutered until an adoption home is found and as far as saving animals I'm all for it, but watch some of those who save, some only was credit and give none to the people that care four the animal those precious few days the animal has left. I know her job is difficult it would be hard for anyone and groups that say the animal already has a home or saw a vet well that may be a different story also.

When I worked for the Jury years ago, PETA was on their case for this gas chamber inhumane way then. Chuck Huebner with TV 10 was all over them too like flies on poop. Mr. Butaud is not the reason it is going on. Research back. I couldn't understand her statement either but I wanted to clarify that it is in no way just Mr. Butaud and Mr. Moresi's doing. I'm talking back in the 1980's this was the way they did things at the "Animal Control" Center.

What I would like to know is WHY are the taxpayers subsidising a FOR PROFIT hospital instead of helping the animals at Rabies Control to at least be allowed a less painful end.

YOu stand correct there, but now they are the ones who can stop it! And they need to , how would they like it if when they get old and no one wants them someone just says okay, your useless, lets just take them down the hall and put them down and while we are at it, maybe we can make them suffer a little bit, hhmm. That would not be too nice! Lmao,lol... Seriously it needs to change, all those poor little animals. I understand about the control part, I do. But to put them down in a human way, is the best way!

What people fail to understand is that not all of the dogs/cats that go to rabies control are cute little friendly animals, there are plenty of dogs/cats that have had little or no human interaction and have been roaming the streets of vermilion parish their whole lives. These animals are a public health hazzard as well as a saftey hazzard. What the we the public fail to realise is that the rescues and the non profit groups are full to capacity aswell. in order for a dog/cat to leave rabies control it has to go somewhere. adoption is a wonderful thing to the right home, but as seen with the sheer number of animals they take in, not everyone in the parish is suitable to adopt an animal, that animal needs veterinary care, needs to be spayed/nutered, and most people in the parish dont believe in fixing their pets. thus the problem with the number of unwanted pets. and as far as the gas chamber.. unfortunately its a necessary evil. I would not want to hold a dog hell bent on eating me for lunch while the injection is given.

Yes mine are all spayed/nutered and also up to date on their shots.Thank you very much. I didn't mean to offend you but you need to think. Have you ever seen them put 20 dogs in a metal box with plastic tie straps around their mouths? And then gassed. Have you seen them loaded in the truck and hauled to the dump like trash? Have you seen the fear in their eyes? I didn't think so. I hope God opens your eyes to the cruelty that goes on there, paid for by us other tax payers.
