This post is about the gender discrimination male customers experience when they ask for pizza from the main counter person at: Ancona Pizza, Valley Stream, NY, 11580: Customer Service is Awful!! Unless you are an attractive woman, the late 30s/early 40s bozo with light brown hair will barely even talk to you. He is such an ingrate and unfortunately he is the only person that serves pizza behind the counter. The owner on a rare occasion serves pizza and he is much nicer man. But if you ask this other bonehead to heat your pizza up in a nice way and you are a man, he will heat it up and then put it in a box as to say "Alright, get out of here now". He is falsely delusional in thinking serving pizza to women will help his chances. Maybe next time I go in I will wear a wig and see how he treats me. The pizza is pretty good though. From the other reviews, yes it is a little oily, but the sauce and cheese are very good. just don't ask the guy behind the counter to heat it up, unless of course you look like Kim Kardashian; then he will ask you: "sure, how long? do you need anything else? hows ur day goin?" what a creep!!!! I am a regular here, as this place is right across the street from my apartment. But sometimes I walk a couple of blocks down Rockaway avenue to another pizza place, not for better pizza, but to avoid him. Unless you are an attractive woman looking for free garlic knots by the creep behind the counter, DO NOT GO TO: Ancona Pizza, Valley Stream, NY, 11580

I AGREE. they look at you like you're the retarded one when you say anything, They'll look at you with a disgusted face and be like "what??????" if you say anything. They act like they're being forced to work there, but nobody's forcing you guys! If you're that unhappy, maybe you should quit. Everyone knows the counter guys are assholes, you mention Ancona, and someone is bound to mention it. I guess they think their pizza is THAT good. So good they can act the way they do and still succeed.. I guess we'll see.

Ancona pizza "used" to be that good but has been a mediocre mess for quite a few years. You can't rest on your laurels pizza man and you sure as hell better loose the attitude. The original owners would be rolling in their graves if they knew what you have turned the place into!

My comment was not meant to disparage Italian Americans Capt. A Hole I think we all knew that you are white, now we all know that your are not Italian. This thread was based on "bad attitudes and bias", you fit right in!

My cousin took me to this place for the first time last weekend telling me it was better than pizza in Brooklyn. Not sure what he was on but it was just a regular pizza, not bad and not good either. I was like "huh". No where to sit and staring at pizza boxes about 5 inches from your face. All their employees took up the back part of the "Restaurant". Comparing this place like to a Lucalli's on Henry Street in Brooklyn is insane. time for my cousin to go to rehab....

Get your facts straight .. It's still the original owners considering its FAMILY OWNED FOR 40+ YEARS. I have been living in the valley stream area for a long time and I wouldn't even think to order pizza from anywhere else. I ordered a grandma pie for a friendly gathering i had at my house and my friends made me go back for another 3 PIES just so they could bring some home so their families could try it. If you eat there the waitress in the back is considerate, BEYOND NICE, and highly attentive to every customer regardless of how busy it is. These people work their asses off and it shows in how delicious their food is.

Yes! I fully understand all the negative comments about the counter Guy ...Amazed how he has gotten away with his antics all these years. Yet as much as he annoys the heck out of me ..somehow i've become sorta used to him. On the plus side ..ALL the waitresses are very nice. The food is usually good and the prices are still reasonable.

I have been going there for 30 years and never witnessed what you describe. Yes one or two may be a lady lover and help the attractive ones out faster and better. Check your mirror see what happens next time.

Food is great there and never a problem. Not happy take time to walk down to one of the bodega's for food. You can get a nice warm bologna sandwich for $2.00. Rockaway ave is a haven for dirtbags, squatters and illegal renters. Ill speak to the village to help clean it up for the tax payers and customers who live and shop in vs for 30 years.
