This would be the first huge step to stop me from visiting or shopping downtown Ephratas businesses. Look at York and Lancaster City what these homeless programs have done for those cities. It fine to help the needy but the homeless are just the beginning of boarding up downtown and hiring more police to protect us for panhandlers. The Voters in Ephrata that want to keep our town the way it is should vote out all politicians that support this hair brain idea.

I think alot more investigation should be done first before shooting down this project. There are many homeless in the county. What we need to know if what issues they are living with. Is there some way citizens can be assured that the people being considered have no drug/alcohol or other existing problems? If they had some problems in the past, is there some way they be made to enter rehab and have recovered before moving into this shelter. It would be good to help homeless people if the building is adequate. But safety for all should be considered first.

Ephrata??!! Homeless or no homeless, the place is tumbleweeds and blowing winds at best. Does the Dutch Bowl still serve those killer cheesesteaks like they did back in the day? Man they were good.

This is directed to the comments made by Mr Stank who is raising a stink about the homeless shelter in Ephrata.
First Mr Stank, the homeless already exist in Ephrata in very large numbers. They have been there for years. They are not just drug addicts, they are kids who made a bad choice and now can't get a job because of the bad decision, they are the mentally ill and jails are too full to house them anymore. They are the ones who lost their job, had a medical emergency, the disabled who's income offers a bedbug infested hotel room at best.

Do you think that by not helping the homeless you will somehow make them go away?

I hope you never face a crisis that would leave you in need of a blanket and bowl of soup. But, no matter how secure you think your life is, anyone could stumble and fall, even you. Watch Happyness, volunteer at Water Street, get educated. Then, maybe your paranoia won't be your inspiration, your heart will. You do have one of those right?
