Josh, Thanks soo much for your detailed
account. My children's great-great uncle rode the circuit with Mr. Lincoln. They will be glad to have the maps and the play-by-play of your journey. I wish I could have downloaded the detailed instructions you mentioned. |

The war is over, Bubba. Time to get a job and wash the trailor. |
And yet the vast majority of Americans consider him to be the greatest President in our nations history. Not to mention he is a hero of our current President. Yep, Lincoln definitely bent the constitution -- but compared to what goes on now in it's name, he did little damage. The entitlement mentality that now infects the nation is far more damaging than the suspension of habeus corpus. During war, things happen that otherwise would be intolerable. It's one of the big advantages of peace. |
I hope you're not trying to suggest that Lincoln violated the Constitution by suspending the writ of habeas corpus, The Suspension Clause of the United States Constitution itself specifically permits the writ to be suspended in Article One, Section 9 which states: “The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, UNLESS when in cases of REBELLION or invasion the public safety may require it." |

Lincoln Founded the Republican Party... Just a liitle known FACT.
Why does Obama try to equate his life to Lincoln's? It's got to be a joke... Karl Marx is the guy Obama actually emulates - Let's get real for a moment at least! HOPE and CHANGE? You're gonna get change alright - hope's days are numbered. REAP WHAT YOU SOW. READ THIS NOW - BELIEVE IT LATER. |
No comment from the left on this one Steve. Obama compared to Lincoln? That is funny! |
You're living in a fantasy world. As such, your comments merit no further response. |
There are no speeches or writings where Obama equates his life to Lincoln's. |
You have no understanding of communism or socialism. |
The most damaging contributor to the economic collapse was WALL STREET'S entitlement mentality, as in "WE are entitled to YOUR money." |
Did Lincoln appoint a bunch of corrupt people from Illinos and tax cheats to his cabinet also?
I guess Barry the divider wants to see a civil war too! Well, he's certainly off to a great start. I guess his mentor was right, for with this bozo in office, we are surely damned! |
Yeah, well how about the Wintchell and Mahoney hearings! Ya hipster dufus! |
Steve has an amazing understanding of what Communism and Socialism are Frank. I think it is you who don't understand what they represent - If you did understand, you would have though twice before voting for Obozo the magic Marxist. You will one day have to apologize to your children's children for destroying America and their lives - You will say you made the mistake of voting for Barack Obama. |

I wish the author had lingered a little longer in Charleston and its environs. Lincoln tried some of his most significant cases in the Charleston courthouse. The oldest house in Coles County, the "5-Mile House" was a small roadhouse where Lincoln purportedly stayed when riding the circuit. Charleston is where a fair number of Lincoln's relatives and friends lived, such as members of the Hanks family. There is also the home of a very close friend with whom Lincoln stayed when in Charleston, the home still existing as it did and still a private residence. And there is the Lincoln Log Home site, a small settlement similar to New Salem but smaller in scale, where Lincoln's father Thomas Lincoln and his wife Sarah Bush Lincoln had a farm and where Lincoln visited. Lincoln wrote and spoke of his stepmother Sarah Bush Lincoln with great love and affection as she took the young boy under her wing after his own mother died, when Thomas married Sarah. Thomas and Sarah are buried in Coles County. There is much active Lincoln history in Charleston and Coles County and the author glossed over it with barely a nod, in fact spending more time on places the ignore their Lincoln history, such as Decatur. The author did not even mention that there is a Lincoln-Douglas debate museum in Charleston with a handsome bronze statue of Lincoln and Douglas in front. Charleston is a nice place to visit and one whose history is too often overlooked so come back to Coles County and Charleston and take another look.

Lincoln was a very accomplished lawyer who handled a wide variety of cases. the matters he handled ranged from criminal cases , including murder cases, civil trials, collection cases and appeals to the Illinois Supreme Court. On several occasions he had to sue his own cliets to collect his fee. He won every one of those. He sometimes took land in exchange for his fee and at the time of his death owned property all over Illinois.
Little known fact- Lincoln also handled foreclosure cases. As an attorney, he handled over 250 foreclosure cases. In most of these he represented banks or people who were owed money on mortgages and were not being paid. It is fair to say that he kicked more than a few deadbeats off some property. In short he was a good lawyer. He made sure that his clients got paid and that he did too. |

His assault on state's rights and individual rights essentially gutted the 9th and 10th amendments. The vast majority of Americans are obese idiots. |

I suppose that's what passes for an intelligent reposte in Hammond. Try chelation to clear some of those heavy metals from your system, and then get back to me if you ever become coherent. |
