So, what is De Stefano going do do about the escalating violence of the city?

It is not about the Mayor or Police in any of our towns..it is our State reps who should be taking the heat for permissed butchering and brutalization of our community members at the hands of violent and predatorial offenders. They are sitting back and watching our towns get hammered while these offenders are set free again and again in CTs unsaid catch and release policy for violent offenders. This issue is a State issue that has gone unaddressed for to long. They sit back and watch the in-fighting while allowing lax sentencing giudelines for those who take our lives and livlihoods. Life in prison for violent offenders, home invaders, sexual predators and murderers= 0 recidivism. Why aren't people demanding action from those who truly have the power to change and save lives? Where has the Governor been?..or have we not seen enough like Cheshire and New Britain to try and make a difference?

Hate to disagree, but you couldn't be more wrong. The state reps are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing, "representing" the wishes of the majority of voters. If they weren't and people were unhappy with the state rep's performance then why on Earth would the keep getting returned to office election after election?

So no, don't blame it on the government. That's too easy. Open your front door, look to the neighbors on the right, look to neighbors on the left. That's where the fault lies. We have the government we (not me pesonally) asked for and elected. There is no reason to complain.

Don't expect any significant change next election either. I'd bet a month's pay that the ones that are responsible for this mess will be sent back. The Democrat super majority will get stronger, if anything.

Stock up on canned goods and ammo.

most of he people shooting guns in new haven are kids. Most but not all these kids have incompetent parents. Fixing that takes urgent extremely competent and intensive intervention. this city is too corrupt by itself to pull off anything like that ever.

At best, they will throw enough of them in jail at once to produce an era or peacefulness. Not a very comforting solution.
