The Truth About Tytler
by Loren Collins

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.

Who penned the above words? If one were to put one's faith in the reliability of the internet, the obvious answer would be Alexander Tytler. Or Alexander Tyler. Or Arnold Toynbee. Or Lord Thomas Macaulay. Or...

The truth is that despite their frequent use, the above text actually has its origins in two separate and independent quotes, and the author of the first half is, to date, unknown. With regard to the first quoted paragraph, the Library of Congress' Respectfully Quoted writes, "Attributed to ALEXANDER FRASER TYTLER, LORD WOODHOUSELEE. Unverified." The quote, however, appears in no published work of Tytler's. And with regard to the second, the same book says "Author unknown. Attributed to Benjamin Disraeli. Unverified."

Yet despite this factual uncertainty, these quotes are not only frequently attributed to Tytler, but just as frequently employ his antiquity as a means of enhancing their reliability. I myself was misled for years before being informed of their "unverified" status.(maybe you morons, should do a little more research, before you cite and attribute a quote to someone. It aint hard to do,you big dummies.

It's nice that YOU are okay with being groped, and being treated like a criminal even if you haven't committed a crime ... but I am not. I would not give up my consititutional rights for a false sense that the government is trying to make things safe. IF they come up with an optional search line at the airport ... I expect to see you in it, so you can stick to your principles.

do nothing, they are not coming into your home and searching you, they are doing it,before you board an airline,to protect the public, totally different concept.
As far as the government not coming into your home ... you gotta go back an do your research again. There are too many examples where a government agency bursting into a home using a "no knock" warrent only to find out that they have the wrong address. And is some cases, no warrant at all.

Suggest you read the 4th and try to comprrehend it,apparently you are struggling with it's meaning,
Amendment 4 - Search and Seizure
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

OKAY, so as the 4th amendment states above ... What probable cause did I demonstrate that gave the TSA the right to search me, and all my things while I travel?

Teddy, now let me get this straight. You are saying when you bought your home, you never deducted the interest on the loan when paying your taxes.Or if you paid cash for your home, are you saying you would not have used this deduction, had you borrowed money to finance your home. When you could deduct interest on car loans and such are you saying you never deducted the interest at tax time, and wouldn't have, even if you paid cash.In other words you would never have or would avail yourself of any federal tax deduction, not even for children.Even though this discriminates against single people. If your answer is a truthful yes, then I retract my statement about you being a liar.Just so long as we are clear about the fact that you have never used any govt. tax deductions, for anything, and ignored them at tax time, business exemptions being excepted,of course.

The whole TSA groping thing is justified by the threat of the Al Qaeda boogie man striking again … but apparently our government is working WITH Al Qaeda members to help overthrow the government in Lybia & Syria.

If Al Qaeda isn’t our enemy anymore, then why do I have to risk getting cancer with a backscatter x-ray machine every time I fly?
If anything, it is OUR government that can’t be trusted … they have shown what they are capable of;
The FAKE Gulf of Tonkin incident to incite a Vietnam War,
The FAKE “weapons of mass destruction” to justify invading Iraq,
Hell even the sinking of the USS Maine that incited the US to enter the Spanish-American war was believed to be FAKED!!!
And you choose to side with the government over the constitution?!?

The Government is supposed to stay within the limits set forth in the constitution. That is ALL they are allowed to do by law. However, our government has been following a path of not honoring its promise. How am I supposed to trust the government to take care of me, when it doesn’t honor its constitutional promises?

You might want to go back and read the rest of the constitution … not just the fourth. And while you’re at it … please point out where in the constitution that I am required to pay taxes to help the poor? It isn’t the government job … never was.

Instead of provoking any thought, the quote drives you two to try to refute the source.

HaHa you should know by now that you can't debate with a Obama loving progressive loon. All they can do is lie, spin, insult and run and hide when they are backed into a wall.I always find it funny that the party of "loving/helping everyone" are always the first to start with the name calling but scream/crys when someone calls them out on their lies. You might want to ask "democrat" about the 1st,2nd and the 4th that Obama and his thugs are doing an end run around congress on as we speak.Good luck on your "hunt".PP911

WNY was a joke long before Obama took office. Asking if other places have plumbing and "electic", haha. You just might be the dumbest person on Topix, which is saying a lot.
No,you are by far Zippy the dumbest person not only on Topix but almost everyplace you go.Looks like you are a typical lefty loon thats hates it when somone works hard for what they have and has more than you do. I know, you are entitled to have everything the people that works hard for when you won't because you are a socilist and your mommy told you so,right? Not that I care, but I don't watch O'Reilly, sounds like you do seeing you know what words he uses. As far as WNY,if it is so bad why has it been rated in the top ten places to live for the last few years? Where do you live, seeing you don't post it you must be ashame to say where.
