I spent most of Sunday at Ski Sundown with friends and family who were both skiing and snowboarding. On this "dangerous day", the skiing conditions on the mountain couldn't have been better. The snow and the weather were perfect. In your headline "News Channel 8" implied that Ski Sundown was a dangerous place to ski. I don't know why those accidents happened, but from our experience, it was not due to a dangerous mountain. I believe courant.com received some incorrect information.

My daughter and I also spent Sunday skiing at Ski Sundown. The above posted is correct, the skiing conditions on the mountain could not have been better and the staff very attentive. However, we left frustrated feeling it was becoming unsafe as the warm weather brought out loads of families with multiple children that apparently did not feel compelled to ski their level. Parents need to learn that it is impossible to adequately supervise multiple young beginning skiers at once, and like it or not, they DO NOT belong on the longer trails and higher hills. After repeated close calls with very young snowboarders and skiers who had no idea how to slow down, stop, or steer and with no adult within sight we left. I think that the smaller size and family friendly atmosphere at Ski Sundown gives parents a false sense of security and the attitude that they can just let their kids roam free. The last three times I have been to Sundown I have tried to convince kids to ski their level only to be met with denial and smart comebacks. I have also suggested to parents that their kids would be better off on the beginner hills only to be met with blank angry stares. Skiing is a wonderful family sport but it is not a place to socialize with your friends while your kids roam the hills loose.
