I'd like to lay that on 9/11, but too much of its history predates 9/11. For instance: Jackson's removal of the Indians to Oklahoma, the interment of Japanese during World War II, the Red Scare and the persecution of people for their political beliefs, Nixon and his anti-antiwar program, Lincoln's forced conscription and war against the Confederate states. funding of the Nicaraguan Contras, and the Gulf of Tonkin fabrication.

9/11 doesn't look like a big player compared to some of these things, but I wouldn't think it helped reverse the tide, either.

This issue should be put on a ballot like any other land use permit issue. People, not government should decide. Freedom of religion, despite what many of you think, does not give any religion the right to build anywhere it wants to.

Let the people of America decide on this with a vote. Put it on the ballot!

You mean like they do when they are trying to build a church or synagogue in your neighborhood Javier?

You are right. Freedom of religion is not license to build anywhere one wants to. You couldn't, let's say, build a synagogue in the middle of an airport runway. Outside of that, you should be able to build any damned place you want.

I know that those who perished there on September 11th deserve much honor. And being a Baptist I am compelled sometimes to oly think like a Baptist. Yet on September 11th we lost Christians, Jewish, Catholic, Muslims (other than the terrorists), Orthodox Greeks, people from all religious walks of life. And from what I see and read is though a majority of those outside New York (probaly not the majority of America because only certain status' of life are polled) New Yorkers them selves are a bit devided but the majority have no beef with the Mosque.
So maybe all denominations of religion should build a place of worship within visiting distance from the Memorial. I won't call the site by that other name because I do not like that nothing name. I like "The World Trade Center Hero's Memorial" myself. Because everyone on the grounds there sacrificed everything on this Earth that day. Especially the Firemen and Police Officers who lost their lives trying to save others. And those terrorists represented a group like the Watchmen of the 60s or the Arnarchists of our time today. Someone could blow up the Capital and be claiming to do it for Jesus. Does that mean all Christians are terrorist and killers ? These murders were among a small group of people compared to the 1.5 billion world wide members of Islam. How about Reverend Bill Keller ? He has preached agaist Catholics, Jews, Mormons, Muslims even other Christian denominations, and has lashed out at the gay community and tells all these walks of life they are going to Hell because his way is the oly truth ? He wants you to fund his 9/11 Christian Center in lower Manhattan, two blocks from the Memorial.

From their site:
Describing itself as a fake news program, The Daily Show draws its comedy and satire from recent news stories, political figures, media organizations, and often, aspects of the show itself. The show typically opens with a long monologue from Jon Stewart relating to recent headlines and frequently features exchanges with one or more of several correspondents, who adopt absurd or humorously exaggerated takes on current events against Stewart's straight man persona. The final segment is devoted to a celebrity interview, with guests ranging from actors and musicians to nonfiction authors and political figures.

You and your family should be severely disappointed in your lack of intelligence.
