My partner and I are two old gay men who just want to live out our lives in peace. We are nearing retirement and would like to live in a safe area near a good hospital. Would Sharon or New Castle
have areas where we could walk our dog at night if we need to and still be safe ?

What does your sexual orientation have to do with walking your dog at night? Both places have big drug/crime issues, your best bet would be the suburbs, wouldn't want to walk at night in either place. Regarding your safety due to sexuality, if you would just behave like regular hetero people rather than broadcasting your "gayness", nobody would bother about it, it's the folks that broadcast "I'm gay and dare you to do something about it" that get into discrimination issues. Hetero myself, it's not something I open up a conversation with, as it is nobody's concern what I do in my own home/life. Good luck with your quest, I live in a very safe suburb of New Castle and can be at work (hospital) in 10-15 minutes.

Michael, It might be a little hard to give advise without knowing a bit more regarding your housing situation-such as if you're considering a home purchase, condo, apartment, etc. & if you need/want direct access to stores within walking distance. Also, your transportation requirements-if any.

Hello. I was born and raised in New Castle. I am also gay. I have been with my partner for 6 years. We live on the North Hill near Jameson Hospital. As long as you know what doctors to see you will be ok! My sister is a nurse at Jameson in the Cath lab and has worked their for 20+ years. Jameson's ER is run by UPMC. If you do decide to retire here they have really nice condos in Neshanock Twp. Also New Wilmington is a really nice area!

I'm going to go ahead and suggest Ellwood City. Quiet town, as long as you stay away from the housing projects, there really isn't too much crime. Ellwood City Hospital is a good hospital that is almost always empty. Taxes are good too. If it wasn't almost a 20 minute drive to New Castle to work everyday, I would move there! lol

The Sharon/Farrel area has some OK hospitals, but not the best neighborhoods. New Castle, well, I don't carry a gun for no good reason we will put it that way...

You're complaining about a 20 minute drive? I am originally from New Castle but now live in Maryland. My comute every day is 45 minutes on a good day but can get up to 75 minutes if traffic is bad. I would love to only drive 20 minutes or less. Too bad there arn't any jobs there to come back too.

As it is I get up 45 minutes before I have to be at work, an extra half an hour would mean less sleep. As an insomniac, whom meds don't work for or work too well, losing more sleep just isn't an option. As it is I get 2-3 hours of sleep per night, losing half an hour more would be unsafe... lol

But you're right, there are no jobs here anymore except for part-time, barely over minimum wage jobs. Most of the decent jobs require a college degree or you have to know someone with enough pull to get you the job. If I could I would move, but that isn't an option, so I'm stuck here like everyone else...
