Just how is New Castle setting an example of management if the parks, streets, triangles and city owned property is grown up and infested with weeds.

Many of the parks go weeks without being mowed as well.

The Fire Stations are unkept. Where is the pride ?

The walking path north of Osborn Park has grass that is two feet tall.

There are weeds all around City Hall....

There is a pile of yrad debre in the City Hall Parking lot now for 6 years , still not cleaned up !

Is the City headed in the right direction after 6 months ?

They are too busy sending out letters to residents threatening to fine them if their grass is too high or their yards don't look perfect.

I am appalled by the condition of both Baker and Osborne park. They certainly do not seem to care about its appearance or maintenance. Osborne is shameful. The walking trail is overgrown with weeds and looks terrible. No efforts whatsoever to maintain let alone improve or upgrade playground there. I suppose since its the north end of town it is considered unimportant and the kids are all just trashcan babies. It could and should be made into a pleasant and respectable park that families can enjoy. Lowe park is mowed, but is bad in other ways. The play ground is full of weeds, one swing is broken, no picknick tables at either shelter. Baker park is in sad shape! The playground equipment is broken down and even dangerous for children to play around it. What a shame that the "new" part that was built by volunteers is in such disrepair. The older playground equipment needs more than a coat of paint each spring. It needs upgraded completely. And dont get me started on the Aquatic center!

I've never understood how there could possibly be these conditions when we have a jailhouse full of able-bodied criminals with a debt to society to repay.

Um, that is what we pay taxes for, or at least part of it. So pissing and moaning about the things the city administration isn't doing is very justified. You must be on the city payroll.

err, yea..when we pay taxs and hire/elect people to work for us we expect the job to get done to satisfaction - just like any other type of employer. York needs to understand that he is employed by we the people, and that if he his job performance falls short of expectation, then he can be fired in 4 yrs. Nothing wrong with pointing out things that are not getting done, or complaining about lack of progress or poor leadership etc. It is our RIGHT! So stop bitchin and complaining about people bitchin and complaining, dumbass.

The new mayor is calling back the workers who were laid off by the former mayor. Things will get back to normal soon.

This mayor is going to be the most inefficient we have seen in decades. I predict he will spend more than previous mayors and leave the city with great debt. Jobs were cut because they had to be. Everyone knows it. Bringing back all those jobs just to satisfy a few city workers and get their political support is downright irresponsible with taxpayers money when the work was getting done just fine with less employees; less wages and benefits paid etc. It has only been six mos and York is wastfully spending right and left. Hide and watch. He will cost this city dearly.

The work was NOT "getting done". Hence, the topic of this discussion. What exactly is he wasting money on?

I think the Mayor is doing as much as he can with the limited resources he has available. Remember these are CITY workers that he has to deal with. Do you honestly believe they care?

Yes, I believe they care and are grateful to have a job. It's not their fault if they were laid off, or those working were overworked during the last administration. Give em a break.

Well the real issue here is the LACK of management!

The Parks could be managed better!

There could be answers to phone calls that come into teh mayors office.

There could be better upkeep of the fire stations lawns.

The pile in city hall parking lot could be cleaned up.

Watering of the flowers in the hanging baskets on Broad Street.
I HAVE PITCHED IN AND LENDED A HAND, HELPING WITH THE CLEAN UP ON THE NORTH END, PAINTING OF THE VI-DUCT ON 14th STREET, CLEANING UP OSBORN PARK ON MANY WEEKENDS.

We all have to lend a hand when able to do so, we must be willing to help as well....

York in not wasting money on city workers. He laid off workers that sit on thier ass in offices. I think he's the first mayor we've had in a long time that really cares.

the overgrowth of weeds being talked about in this thread is a current situation, not an issue that the current administration inherited from the last - and not one created by laid off employees to do the work. Work was getting done with less employees because it was necessary, proving that work CAN still get done with less employees and the city still operate efficiently. The weed overgrowth is pure laziness and neglect, lack of proper management, not from lack of manpower or money in the city coffers.

If it was a problem from the previous administration, then lets analyze that for a sec. The department head running the parks department at that time was Bud Ayers I believe. If he did such a poor job as to let parks go downhill and allow things to become overgrown etc then why has he been relocated to manage a different department with actually more importance than the park?! imho Ayers needs to retire his fat butt and get his nose out of local politics. People in this town have had that man on a pedastal far too long, taking his political advice, supporting and voting for whoever he says is best candidate, including all of the last three mayors (yes he was big cog in the wheel of democrats for jim small). Wise up, people. You have been hoodwinked again!
