Jeff Morganteen next time you write an article instead of using the word "handicapped",try developmentally disabled; it seems a little more sensitive.

You mean retarded, right? Like a retard kid? My question is this: if a retard kid is retarded, who are we protecting them from by not calling them retarded?

If they're retarded, we could call them green elephants and they wouldn't know... They're retarded!!

Wow!
This is a first.
The Advocate has followed up on a Tpoix posting.
They're apparently reading at least some of what people are saying here. The building's history was posted on Monday.

Town of Stamford should take an apartment there and set up the town morgue. They'd save lots of money transporting bodies.

LOL, Vox, this was my reaction too!

I thought the odd reporter's notes article on the Green murder was also influenced (though not in such an obvious ripped from the headlines manner) from postings here.

If your interested in History.....the 70's had a rash of senseless violent crimes around the Belltown-Haig Ave area.A few murders and a hacking with a machete.Certainly not an area you would expect so much violence in such a short period.

No question, Jane Doe's posting gave them the story idea. There's no one in the Advocate newsroom who goes anywhere near that far back.
Yes, the Green story was more subtle, but no doubt influenced.

I remember the tragic murder of Sandy Hoyt in the late 70s very clearly and I think of it every time I pass the section of Haig where it happened. Which is often.

I'm sorry, I don't mean this in a rude way. I am missing your point. Do you have questions about what happened? Google will answer some of the basics.

Allright...someone correct me if Im wrong. There was the fellow who lived on the corner of Belltown and ? Dont remember....across from the park.He killed a cops daughter and later attacked two teenage girls on or around Newfield Ave.Then there was a murder on Belltown over soapy water in the driveway. There also was a murder on Haig of a young girl babysitting....and a roadrage incident that ended on Haig with a machete and a couple of cut off fingers and one hand. All these things did happen in this area in the seventys.Exactly when in the 70's or early 80's...I dont remember.

Yes... Haig Avenue was where a young girl Sandy Hoyt was brutally attacked and murdered in 1979.

Wasn't that guy called the "machete man" after that? Does anyone remember "Chester the molester" in Stamford?

Yes, In the 80's. I was in grade school and I remember him being in North Stamford, but that is also where I lived and went to school so I'm not sure. Am I right about that?

I remember a lot of talk about a guy in a white station wagon. Was that all an urban legend or was it true?

There was an article in The Advocate about this recently when the girl's father (police officer) died. If I remember, he later attacked one girl (not two), was caught and then essentially confessed to the murder while being questioned.

I also remember being approached {twice} to sign a petition to keep the babysitter murderer and the fellow who killed the cops daughter in jail when they came up for parole....oh...in the later 80's.But! back to the point! These things seem to happen in clusters.Glenbrook road is the "new" area.Belltown once was.
