NORWALK, CONNECTICUT – The Norwalk police officer who was fired for removing a skull fragment from the scene of a fatal accident and later reinstated, is in trouble again, this time for allegedly pointing a gun at a man in a Sandy Hook restaurant.

According to Norwalk Police Union President William Curwen, Liam Callahan was placed on administrative leave on Sunday pending the outcome of the Newtown Police Department’s investigation into the incident. This decision was made by Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling after he learned from the Newtown Police Department that Callahan was a “person of interest” in the case, Curwen said. In addition, part of Rilling’s decision “was to have a lieutenant go down and confiscate [Callahan's] department-issued gun and ID while he’s on administrative leave,” said Curwen.

According to a news release from the Newtown Police Department, at approximately 2:42 a.m. Saturday an individual reported that a person he did not know had pointed a gun at him. The incident reportedly took place around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the bathroom at the 100 Church Hill Road Restaurant in Sandy Hook. The release notes that the caller had left the establishment prior to calling the police, and that the complaint is currently under investigation.

I know this is an old post but to anyone interested in the non sensationalized version; the scull fragment he put in a baggy, then his locker was picked up by him because the cleanup crew at the accident was going to sweep it into the sewer. He felt that was wrong so he took it to turn in. It was the size of a quarter or less. He didnt turn it in imeadiately because he forgot seeing as it was initially supposed to be washed down the sewer there was no real sense of urgency. Secondly the gun incident was bunk. I was told by someone who was there that the man who called was DRUNK and freaked out when he saw officer callahans gun (which he legally can carry) not knowing he was an officer. Don't believe everything you read in the papers, they clearly only have interest in selling their papers. It's truly reprehensible.
