Anyone have an opinion on the condo project Eastside Commons on East Main in Stamford?

I would appreciate any information as to neighborhood, safety, cost of living, value for your money as compared to other properties or areas.

Perhaps someone who now resides there could offer their opinions.

Would you purchase property there?

Know the area and it is pretty safe. can't comment on cost but seems like a good investment as there is a lot of talk of developing that entire area..

If you dont mind the occasional (every weekend) drunk driver, people pissing on the sidwalk and stabbing, its alright.

Drive by there in the morning around 8-9 am, also go there on a friday night.

Jamie, for the type of money they are asking "pretty safe" seems to be overpriced. Can you be any more specific? How long has this suggested developement been in the "planning" stages?

Abolish the Fed: IF I were to drive in the area around 8-9:00 am what do you suppose I would find?
And Friday nights? I am guessing not good?

The property itself seems fine just wondering about the area for this amount of investment.

Thank you for your responses.

It is an up and coming area of Stamford. But it will take a few more years. Glenbrook is highly settled. Main St area gets a lot of immigrants, legal and not. And up a few blocks to the east are housing projects, which ultimately limits the quality of life and safety of the east side.

Between 8 and 9 am you will find a bunch of day laborers hanging around the streets and sidewalks for work, late nights you will get drunk guys coming in and out of the spanish bar next to the laundromat.

These east side units are over-priced CRAP, and Seth Weinstein did a lot of lobying to "clean up" the area but you can put perfume on a pig if you would like,

It all needs to start somewhere. Remember what the bottom of summer street used to be like? Prostitute city. The east side can get cleaned up if they don't lose their momentum. The commons are a good start.

thats a very short-termist negative type of view ATF.

it is 8pm and I am in the sunglass hut. it is dark so I will not buy sunglasses.

i think what he was trying to say is that this could be good investment.

There are probably 20 other places within downtown with the same amenities that would offer better quality of life for the equal investment potential. Yes, the area is up and coming. But I doubt there will be any return on any investment that will reflect this.

My pet peeve with the east side is that it is impossible to travel east down main st. There are parked cars that make the two lanes one lane, jamming up traffic.

ATF is undoubtable a pessimist, and his political views are fringe and bizarre. But I have to agree with him on his description on this one. The east side has a way to go.

If it is an investment for the future that is fine but if you look at the prices of these crap huts they dont reflect an "up and coming" area.

To be fair, I've seen that happening even in the "better" neighborhoods. Anywhere there is a bar, there is a potential for outdoor urination.

Read the police blotter. The projects up the street a bit to the east offer job security to the local police department.

Those projects are a lot farther than "up the street a bit", about a half mile or so, and most of the police blotter entries involve domestic disputes and teen gang rivalries.

I know a bit about "teen gang rivalries" as they happen in my neighborhood as well....gun shots at least once a week....thats why I wouldnt wish this on anyone else....
