My husband and I were on the river and saw this young man jump from a tree, the way he fell from the tree, and landed into the water was horrible. The party he was floating with didn't wait for him, so when he came up his friends were already a ways away from the jump site...My husband and I noticed that he didn't come up quickly like all the other jumpers, I looked at my husband and said,"Honey that man is struggling"..We started paddling over towards him as fast as we could...To my right I saw two men that were closer, my husband and I called for help, they jumped into the water and started swimming toward him, this young man came up for his last breath, oddly enough he made no cry for help, no panic. I wondered if he hadn't injured himself from the jump. We weren't close enough, and they couldn't get him. I looked up and saw a young man on a balcony, he had a computer, so I yelled to him, do you have a cell phone, he responded yes, I told him this young man just went under to please call 911. In the mean time the two men were still searching for him. I looked ahead at the massive amounts of people in the river and screamed, who is with the man that just jumped off the tree, there was a group that raised their hands and responded. I yelled at them, your friend just drowned...only one of the young men climbed the wall of the Comal River and ran down to where the men were looking still. My husband and I were swimming quickly toward the end, as we needed to make sure that 911 was called. I exited the Comal and left my husband as I ran up the stairs yelling at people, cell phone anyone with a cell phone. I looked ahead and saw an officer and heard sirons...He asked me if I was the one who saw, I told him yes, my husband and I did. The officer took my husband so that my husband could show the Fire Department where we saw him jump and where he took his last breath. Listen, I share this story because we are still shakin by what happened. It is a weird thing to see something happening and be so helpless. It all happened so fast, but seemed to last forever. I will say my husband and I don't drink and float, however there were plenty of folks who were...It amazes me the amount of people out there and had my husband and I not seen this man from a distance and been watching him for whatever the reason, who is to say if he would have been found so quickly, or his family know what really happened. I have been praying for his family, and hope the media releases his name so that I might be able to say this mans name in my prayers. Please don't drink and mix water sports and furthermore, please don't do things with people who don't keep there eyes on you. It sickens me that when this party of people the young man was with started to exit the river, there was the young mans tube with his cooler tube. The kids that were with him got the cooler tube and left his tube in the water. Really! Who cares about the alcohol!!!!!! What about this persons life, whom you paid no mind to, my heart bleeds for this young man and his family! You will be in my prayers...
