Illinois has much better traffic sensors and cycle patterns. MDOT should consider their system.

Afriend of mine got a ticket for turning on a yellow arrow. How is that possible?

It's been 1 1/2 years and still no improvement. 12 Mile & Harper has been malfunctioning nearly every day and I've seen some accidents there as well. Yesterday it was flashing red four ways during rush hour. How much can SCS push Macomb County Road Commission to get their act in order?
You must pay attention

I work in Troy and I'll say that they've had their system for at least 17 years. Works okay but the key thing is that drivers need to pay attention all the time when waiting at a light. If they don't then they can miss their opportunity to make a turn, or at least not allow anyone behind them the chance to. That causes backups. With everyone now texting the problem has gotten worse. Elderly drivers seem to always take a few extra seconds to get moving, like they don't trust that the light or arrow is green for them. When the light for them is only a handful of seconds long that can make a big difference as to how many cars/trucks make it.

Totally agree drivers need to pay attention and move when it's their turn. In fact that's my number one pet peeve on the road. A slow or distracted driver dosent turn right away on the green arrow, then holds up five cars behind them that could have turned. The turn lights cycle differently every day by either having a solid red or blinking yellow arrow. I just don't understand why it takes so long to get these traffic lights working properly.

Especially during that stretch when there was dense fog. Took 11 minutes to get a green arrow turning left from WB 12 mile to SB Harper. PD was sitting in Midas lot observing, but that was it, just observing. I turned on my flashers and he finally came over, only then I got the green arrow. He had nothing to do with it changing. Other than that one instance, I think it works well most of the time.

I was t-boned at an intersection in SCS 5 years ago due to these "smart" traffic lights. They are defintely not an east side thing and clearly other drivers are not aware of the sensors that trigger the lights. The cities should be posting notifications of these changes (like signs on the road). Drivers get used to the same routine, including traffic lights, and then one day it's completely different but the drive is unaware and then etiher ends up turning on a red or getting into an accident because the new timing system and the inability to turn. They have a sensor timed light in my sub off of 23 mile now and the same thing happens there. People are not aware of this sensor, pull out too far, and then the light never turns green. Then people turn on the red or end up cutting through parking lots, etc. MAKE THE PUBLIC AWARE OF THESE TRAFFIC CHANGES. Derrrrrrr...

Smart? Really? I think the new traffic signals are terrible. The sequence is always different, and the impede the flow, always changing as you approach to let one car go. Also how much are we paying for all the new lights? I think that money would be much better spent elsewhere, I mean it's not like we are replacing lights that don't work. Just my 2 cents
