7th suspected heroin death worries officials

The seventh suspected heroin death in a week has authorities in Western Pennsylvania worried there may be a bad batch of heroin circulating here.

now that these seven are dead there just might be enough herion left for your children. have any of you people given any thought to how they might have gotten hooked in the first place? everybody has a story but it dosent appear to matter to any of you. i guess you would rather see them die than get help and become productive members of society. i dont think there are many gangbangers in sterns kentucky so i doubt you would know one if you seen one.

People need to be responsible for their own actions. They decided to do the drugs. In this information age people are aware of the risks and consequences.

I agree with you. I moved from Latrobe 3 years ago after my 2&7 yr olds came in from playing with a needle. I freaked out and packed up and moved North. I know drugs are every where, but I think the Latrobe/Derry area is running rampant with heroine.

Packed up and moved? A little bit of an over reaction I would say. Why not raise your children right and make them strong enough to live drug free? You can't shelter them from the real world, and derry/latrobe is one of the safest areas in the country to live. Drugs are everywhere, maybe just now rural areas are starting to realize that, even though they still are very safe communities with little or no worry about violence.

Would you still think that way if your child picked up a dirty needle? I am going to teach then to live drug free and I hope they listen. What if I had stayed and they stepped on one and got HIV or hepatitus (sorry sp)? My careless neighbors who would never believe that their precious teenagers were druggies even after one od'd. I know I did the right thing by moving. I am not sheltering them. I care about their safety. The cops wern't doing anything about the dealing and using. They wern't big enough for them to care.

I am still young and have yet to have children, but I agree with you that it would terrify and anger me if my child found a needle. I only disagree that moving and trying to keep your child away from drugs is the way to go. It might in return spark curiosity and experimentation when they get older. Myself for example, saw first hand living in the city, the drug users and their problems and never got involved with drugs. I just think strong parenting to teach your child the dangers and ethics will be best to keep children off drugs. Sheltering children will only hurt them in the future (not saying you specifically).
