Smart children don't just fall off cliffs, there has to be some level of inaccuracy here.

the rocks were wet and he slipped. hinting at his "lack on intelligence" is DOWNRIGHT insulting.
i knew him, and his brother, very very well. they are like family to me, and i cannot express the pain we feel due to his loss. we miss you Jake. rest in peace......
please, keep the Walls family in your prayers.

He was off trail. If the ground was wet and uneven it doesn't take much to slip and fall.

This is so sad. The fall was unlikely to have anything to do with his age or intelligence. It can and does happen to people of all ages who hike in such areas. I have seen a friend nearly run off the edge of a cliff in Geauga County in Nelsons Ledges State Park. He only stopped himself after running into a barbed wire fence. However, such fencing is not strung up everywhere off trail. It is imperative that people realize that going off trail in parks such as NLSP or in the Hocking Hills can be incredibly dangerous, with fatal consequences. My condolences to the family, friends, and congregation.

Another person who chose to ignore signage and go off marked trails. This just happed out west somewhere, only that guy (who was an eagle scout) survivied and was billed $25K for the rescue because he chose to ignore marked trails, get injured and continue on anyway. Sadly, the boy in the article paid the price. Please people! Pay attention! The signs are there for a reason.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the child, his family and friends. If anyone has gone to old man's cave, you can attest that it can be a dangerous place. Kids will be kids and at any age, they sometimes make bad decisions. (So do adults for that matter). I hope that other kids learn a lesson from this and that his death potentially prevents any others in the future. For those posting mean comments, get an ounce of compassion and keep your comments to yourself. Give the same compassion to others that you would ask God for if you met Him tomorrow.

My daughter was friends with Jake. She said he was the nicest person you would ever want to meet, and the last time they talked, he was trying to make her feel better. My heart aches for his parents, and I hope they know everyone in the Reynoldsburg community is praying for them.

I had Jake as a student a few years ago. He was the type of student you dream of and the ones you wish to have fill your classroom. He always entered my room with a smile on his face and a good morning. I teach math and he was so smart!! He showed compassion towards other students and helped tutor others in class. I still cannot believe that this happened. I pray for his family and also the students who witnessed this awful trajedy as well as the students who will never see him enter their classrooms again.

The more beautiful all the more dangerous...
This applies equally to women and nature....

Whether it's Old Mans Cave or The Grand Canyon it's called "slickrock" for a reason.....

Stay on the trail.....
Stay away from the edge...

Don't take the "6 second hike".....it'll "take your breath away.......

My prayers for the young mans family....

Jake was a great guy. I'm going to miss him. I hate that so many people have died or been injured here. My prayers go out to all these families. I love Jake, and can't wait to see him again in heaven. He's lookin' down on us, and smilin'....and i know he's happy now. I was there when it happened, and i wont forget it. It's a horrible thing to happen to such a great guy, but this was god's decision, not ours.
