I am new to forums and posted this question somewhere else but can't find it. Sorry about any repeats. Today is my second day of Chantix and I have heard some really scary things.
I'm not sure when to quit actually smoking, guess i'll stop when I do not think about them as much.

Chantix is one of the best meds out to quit smoking! and it works. Of course some side effects..as with all meds. But not what has been mentioned..maybe 1/500

These are NOT frequent side effects, the two most common side effects are #1 nausea (that goes away with continued treatment) and #2 increase in vivid dreams.
On the other hand, they could follow your advice and quit right away, continue smoking and get COPD, emphysema, lung cancer etc...
I for one chose nausea and dreams

I started chantix amost a month ago. I have not smoked a cigarette in 28 days, but I have been the most unhappy, and depressed person since then. I have always had trouble with depression, since I wasa child, but thought maybe I had over come it because for the past two years I have been wonderul. My husband quit cold turkey, no chantixon the same day as me. He has done just as well as me not smoking, but has not been mentally bothered like I have. I didn't know about the possible "side effects" untill this morning when it was on the early show. I don't know if it has been the absence of cigarettes and nicotine, or if it actually was CHANTIX, but I have stopped taking the medicine and do hope to feel a whole lot better really soon. It all boils down to this, You hae towant, I mean desire to quit, regardless of what meds you take. My husband turned to sunflowerseeds. When he craves a cigarette, he has a few sunflower seeds.

All I know is there have been some very bad days in the past month. And if I had known that depression and worse were a possible side affect, I would have definatly thought twice before taking it....... Good luck quitting smoking and I hope it can be a happy thing for you!!:o)

I am experiencing the same thing here. I hope this continues. I have been dealing with depression for about 8 years. No meds have worked, until now.

My experience has been that I experienced incredible relief from a lifetime of depression using Chantix. I have been fighting this all of my life, and it was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, once I quit smoking (7 months now!), the depression returned. I am still trying to get it under control. It sucks.

Where did you get 1/500, from Pfizer? Don't pull numbers out of thin air.
Chantix is the best med for stopping smoking available, no doubt. I took it for 12 weeks and it's close to three years as a non-smoker. I was heavily addicted,(30yrs), and had tried every remedy known. I've been under a psychiatrist care for almost 2 years trying to find a drug, or combination of drugs, for overwhelming anxiety that has no known cause, stresser or triggers. No previous history of any mental or emotional conditions. I would really like to feel normal again someday. I AM really glad I don't smoke anymore, but at what cost?

I have also used chantix I have encountered depression, nausea, horrible dreams, anxiety sleeping disorder, mood swings and also severe joint pain I suggest no one use this medicine and just quit cold turkey without medicine or without chantix. At least. Actoully I still encounter bad dreams and I have not taken chantix in a few months bastards should get sued for not suggesting the other side effects they have not listed

I to have experienced relief from life long depression after taking Chantix.(52 years) My psychiatrist can't ethically prescribe it for depression because there isn't enough evidence to support my claim. If people such as ourselves make this known, the powers that be might change their view.

I think that if you have a history of depression or have ever been seriously depressed you should be very careful about taking Chantix. It affects people in very different ways. Some people have no side effects, quit smoking and swear by it. The first couple of days I took it, I thought it made me happier. On day 8 I was seriously depressed, crying my eyes out. I consulted my doctor and he suggested going back to 1mg a day but I haven't been able to put that pill in my mouth. I will not take Chantix. I am just going to quit smoking the old fashioned way. I did it before and was smoke free for 15 years, so I can do it again. My depression was not caused by nicotine withdrawl as I was still smoking. Good luck to everyone.

I have experienced, for the first time in over 20 years and almost the same number of different types of meds, almost 100% relief from my anxiety due to taking Chantix. My doctor and my psychiatrist are going to work together to see if a low maintenance dose might be doable. We need more people to get the word out so the studies can begin, otherwise they won't be able to prescribe outside of the standard usage and timeline, which is only six months.

my husband took chantix in oct/11 quit smoking w/i month-have not known who he is from one day to the next, serious depression & extreme mood swings, violent outbursts, weird dreams etc finally got him to stop taking the crap, 2 months later he is still a mess emotionally. Dr told ME it is the best stuff out there to quit cigs & worth the side effects-does she live in my house--this stuff shud be banned from the market I do believe it is a VERY dangerous drug, can really say I wud rather have him smoking then the person I have now

I too have had extreme relief from depression on Chantix I am only on day three but feel absolutely FANTASTIC I have truly more patience with my hubby and two darling sons and dog then I have ever had! It's strange because I was preparing myself for the worst I only smoked maybe 2-5 cigs per day but non the less it was a safe place of peace for me a reward for doing my "momma" chores... I went to bed for the first time in five years last night and didn't even want to smoke... I have had light trouble sleeping was up late till like 2am last night but awoke fully refreshed so strange. No vivid dreams but the little bits I do see are amazing and detailed as heck! I will update as I continue on this medication I pray it works for the best for my family. Also for you too! Good luck and know the side effects prepare yourself anything worth doing is going to be difficult is what I say at least at this moment thus far! ;-)
