A life for a life. She took the life of an innocent 12 year old, for a petty, stupid reason. Even if she could feel the pain, terror and fear that her victim felt, it wouldn't be enough to help her understand what she has done. She should be tortured every day until she dies.

I grew up in New Albany. I was in 2nd grade when the murder happened. I went to Hazlewood Jr. High, where Shanda and Amanda went and I later went to New Albany High School, where Melinda went to school. Fascination with the case locally has never faded. I was just wondering if anyone knows what happened to Melinda's family. Do they still live in New Albany? I know that Shanda's mother does and Amanda Heavrin does, but I wondered about Melinda's family. Also, does anyone know where Melinda's house was in New Albany? I'm just curious.

How can you defend this girl? You said earlier she had the mental stability of a toddler. Ok first off,she planned this murder, she bragged about it, and this bitch smiled in her mugshot. Im sorry her father molosted her. That is sad. However it does not excuse her actions. As For Ton, Hope, and Laurie they are equally to blame. Toni has kids now and is married. Her name is now Toni Parker, I feel for her children, people talk especially in a small town like Madison, as her kids grow up they have to hear the tale of how thier mother stood by and watched The others brutally murder a yound innocent girl. IF these girls were truely remorseful they would not fight for release. I hope each and everydsay they have nightmares, and flashbacks of that horrible night. I Hope Melinda cant sleep and cant eat, I hope everytime she see fire she has memories. I Hope while they dream of this night they feel the pain poor Shanda felt. I hope and Pray that they never ever forget this. I hope the two remaining in Prison get beaten severly everyday alll day.

Melinda wasn't in High School. She went to Hazelwood at the same time as Amanda & Shanda. Melinda was a stupid 16 year old b*tch in the 8th grade.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Melinda was 16 and she went to New Albany High School at the time of the murders. Shanda and Amanda were younger than her. Amanda went to Hazelwood and Shanda had gone to Hazelwood, but transferred to Our Lady of Perpetual Help (a local catholic school) at the time of the murder. I have friends who went to New Albany with Melinda at the time, so I know she went there.

i honestly cannot believe that this thread is still going, we should not be giving this much thought to this person. she is where she needs to be. if you take a life, especially the way that she did, you should pay with your life, whether it means sitting in a prison cell for the remainder of your days or being executed, she should never be released, and she def doesnt deserve this much attention. if you start to feel even the slightest sympathy for this person, remember shanda and how she suffered at the hands of this monster.

Sorry but Chevelle IS right! On page 9 of the book Little Lost Angel it says Melinda was an 8th grader.(Not in high school)Then on pg 10 it says Hazelwood students already knew Amanda & Melinda were a couple because they were seen hugging & kissing in the hallways. Also on pg 11 it states that because Amanda would be in suspension, her & Melinda wouldn't get to spend time together between classes & that Melinda deliberately came to school late 1 day so she'd be placed in detention with Shanda & Amanda.

Maybe the book is referring to when Amanda and Melinda met. Melinda did go to Hazelwood, but I know she went to New Albany High School. The high school at the time only consisted of sophomores-seniors. I have friends who actually had classes with her at New Albany so either the book has some errors or it is referring to a previous time period. When the murders took place Melinda Loveless went to New Albany High School. Check the year books if you like. The New Albany Floyd County Public Library has every year on file.

Chevelle and Jessica,
I'm sorry, it appears I was wrong. I found a newspaper article that states that Melinda was in 9th grade at the time of the murder. At that time New Albany freshmen attended school at either Scribner or Hazelwood Jr. High. Hazelwood housed grades 7-9. She was technically a high school student but due to the structure of New Albany public schools up until around 2004, freshmen were housed at one of the 2 junior highs. I was confused because I have friends who had classes with Melinda at NAHS, but this makes sense because Hazelwood is located directly behind the high school and freshmen were allowed to take a few classes at the high school, walking back and fourth between the 2 schools. Those that I know who knew her said she wasn't very smart, skipped school a lot, and hung around with kids we always referred to as "the dirty kids" meaning the ghetto acting trouble makers. Anyway, I apologize for the error. Here is the site with the article if you would like to read it:

Goddamn right!!! locked up for a nasty murder, not for stealing a candy bar. Do you not understand her crime? She's a miserable low life killer. It was completely planned out. I'm guessing you've done some serious crime and time yourself. Go eat s--t!!!!
