Drug-related slaying considered self-defense

Two small-town women allegedly drove to Kansas City to buy crack cocaine, got into a gunbattle with a dealer and killed him.

They were charged with murder.

But on Friday, one of them pleaded guilty to attempted drug trafficking and received a five-year sentence.

Prosecutors said they dropped murder charges because of evidence of self-defense.

Michelle M. Grundmeier, 18, of Frontenac, Kan., pleaded guilty to the drug charge and was sentenced Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court. Read more
