Netcong has enacted an ordinance which bans political signs on private property except 30 days before an election. Borough officials apparently are very serious about enforcing this new law. Last week it sent its administrator/zoning officer to visit a homeowner demanding a sign supporting a republican presidential candidate to be removed from his front lawn or be hauled into court and fined. The homeowner stood his ground. The town ultimately backed down.

This ordinance violates the First Amendmentís guarantee of free speech. It is an embarrassment to a fine town. Hopefully, Netcong taxpayers will not become burdened with legal fees because borough officials will again attempt to enforce a clearly unconstitutional law. The ordinance should be repealed immediately.

Mr. Keller, I have always found you to be honest and smart. I completely agree with you point, it is a perfect example of a local government that feels it is above the law. They are in such a bubble that they have no idea what is happening around them, or outside this 1 square mile town. I believe we made a serious mistake when the voters chose Mr. Nametko over you 4 yrs ago. Please consider stepping back into public service in the future.

Maybe the zoning officer should put a sign in front of Scumbag Joe Nametko's house that says "Child Free Zone-A Pervert Lives Here". Mr. Keller and Provolone22 hit the nail right on the head. We have a mayor and council that believe they are above the law. As I have said many times, this is what happens when you have a town council made up of alcoholics, idiots, and whores.

Mr. Keller I couldn't agree with you more. Too bad you are not still on the council. I think you are a fair man. Thanks for sticking up for the little guy that is being picked on. We need people like you in town.

I agree with what everyone else is saying. Maybe if you were still there Mrs. Colabela wouldn't have lost her job.

Speaking about the law, a field in which I work professionally, the definition of the crime LIBEL is: Defamation that is communicated by writing, drawing, photograph, television program, or other means that is directed toward the sense of sight.

What you have written about the mayor fits the description of this crime. The Internet is not a "law-free" zone. It is cowardly to make hurtful remarks about a person, while hiding behind a screen name, "Pepperoni." Perhaps you don't realize that your IP address can be traced and you can still be held liable for your comments.

I appreciate your passion for Netcong, but please direct it towards something useful and productive, not hurtful and negative. Petitions to run for council and/or mayor are available at the borough hall. If you truly want to make a difference, volunteer, ask to be appointed to a committee, or show up at a meeting.

Toni Anne. Please do not mis-represent yourself. You are not a lawyer or paralegal or in any position to be an expert on the law. You are a court stenographer.

If everything said on topix is true, there is no lawsuit to pursue.

Please get your facts straight before you give your unsubstantiated opinion.

Thank you.

I wouldn't worry about what anyone writes on Topix about the town council, Ms. McCullough. If Jim Arbolino decides to run, you won't be on it anymore.

While I have taken my name from "Pep" I have often said I have not agreed with the name calling. However to quote laws and possible punishment is childish. When someone puts themselves in the public eye it sometimes comes with public scorn. Man up and learn something from it.

Now onto a more timely topic. I just heard that our super smart town fathers have gone and hired an outside attorney to defend themselves against Mrs. Colabella's lawsuit. What do we pay Mr. Bucco for??? Isn't it his advice that they used to fire her in the first place, why cant he defend his positon in court? Why don't they offer Mrs Colabella whatever it will cost us for this new attorney and maybe she will drop this lawsuit. Then when all our money is spent, take the entire cost of this fiasco, split it in half and take equal shares from Ralph's and Mr. Bucco's salaries.

That sounds like justice to me. The 2 responsible for this mess should pay.

Please tell all of us just what Jim's qualifications are as Mayor? What college did he attend and what is his degree?

Jim Arbolino went to a college that Mayor Nametco couldn't get accepted at. It's called "University of Common Sense".

Save your vote jackass. Jim doesn't need it.

What qualifications do you need to be Mayor? Is a college degree necessary. I don't know how much college Jim has but I am confident he knows this town well and is in touch with what the people want and don't want. The "idiots" in Washington are all college grads and look at the mess they have made in our country. Actually this conversation is irrelevant. Obviously Jim doesn't want to be mayor of Netcong because if he did, he could have been. Don't go throwing insults around about him. If he was the mayor he is smart enough to run this town with his eyes closed and he could do it without an administrator that makes $120,000. a year and a free car. I was also wondering what degree in law Ms. McCullough has. Does anyone know?

What college did Jack Sylvester, Elmer Still, Toni Ann McCullough, or Ed Koster go to? Oh yea none. Bob Hathaway's degree is in landscape management.
I am not saying that college isn't important but at one point Mrs Laureys was the only one on the council with any college at all and her degree is in education. The only councilman that had a degree in business in the town's recent history was Ben Dellamo and the people threw him out.

Voting Ben Dellamo out was one of the biggest mistakes the people in this town ever made. He was smart, not afraid to speak out and a hard worker. We all know why that happened. He was also in touch with the residents and always willing to help people out.

You do not need qualifications to hold a public position in the Town of Netcong. You simply need to be part of a click; whether that click is you are from a family that has lived here for a long period of time, or if you become part of a click like the school board that doesnt really know their burro from their elbow, or you become part of a click that hangs out at Rosie's (no negativism directed toward Rosie) you know, part of a good old Netcong click. What qualifications does Jim Arbolino hold to even be considered for Mayor of Netcong? Is it because he was a cop in town? Does that make him a good guy, capable of holding office? No disrespect toward Jim, but whether it's Jim or anyone else for that matter, the people of this town need to get their heads out of their burros, and start paying better attention to people with "street smart" qualifications. Qualifications that just don't come from education. Overall qualifications. People skills, budgeting skills, community skills, the skills required for the good of everyone, not just for the good of the clicks of this town. Because that is the problem with this town; you all play follow the leader. I have never in my life seen a town forum such as Netcong where people are more concerned with gossip and belittling people. Oh, and here will come the Netcong peanut gallery next telling me to get out of Netcong if I dont like living here. Please. Netcong has more misfits and trouble makers than I have ever seen in my life. And this is why this town will never prosper or progress to the likes of some of the more affluent towns in our immediate 10-15 mile radius. Because Netcong loves drama, Netcong loves running with the horse that is the hot click of the month. Once the people with some form of common sense in their heads are able to be placed in positions of power in this Town, that is when this town will flourish. But in order for that to happen, the clicks need to be dissolved and pushed aside. And unfortunately the clicks overpower the smarter people around Netcong.

How do you know what Bob Hathaway has done since he's been on the council. Do you go to council meetings? Do you read about him in a newspaper. Maybe you should talk to him, he is very approachable. I think he would be happy to tell you what he is working on and what his goals are for the town. I totally disagree with you that he has done nothing. I see him as a hard worker, very interested, and he listens to the people. You are totally ignorant with your remark. I know for a fact that he spends a lot of time working with the Lake Board that is trying to get the lake in our town cleaned up. ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY!
