Todd Morton seemed heads above the rest. He had the most ideas, the clearest ideas and also the most independent ideas. He doesn't seem to be afraid to challenge the majority opinion on the board, but does so civilly and effectively.
So I have heard

The talk of the school was that Todd Morton was in a league of his own, so I guess that's true from the previous comment. Good to know for the election next week!

I agree with the comments above, and todd proved to be an asset to the board last night. Im looking forward to seeing the results of next weeks election.

Thought it was a great way to get to know the candidates. Thanks PTA. Too bad more people were not there to see for themselves. I wonder if the night was open to residents who do not have children in the school presently. Was it advertised for others to know about? I would like to see more town wide involvement not just in the school but with so many issues in Netcong.

Who exactly is Todd Morton?? Is he new in town? what are his views on education? what does he have to offer the board, students and town people? is he the only candidate running for the board? give me some input other than the opinions (personal) of the above writer(s).

The facts are that Todd has a degree in education and was a teacher. He now works for McDonalds (he runs quite a few of them) as I believe a regional manager. He has an education as well as business background. My opinion is he seems very approachable. He is not new in town as far as I know.

Marianne Callahan is also a very good candidate because she will listen to the people. A fact is she worked very hard to curb the trucking problem on Allen Street (a county road) where any size truck would barrel through at all hours of the day and night. This was no easy feat for her but she took it on because something had to be done to correct this safety hazzard. She took a long term traffic mess on a County Road and cleaned it up. In my opinion, she is a grass roots type who gets things done. She would definitely bring some good ideas and know how to the board of education. Wish she would run for Netcong Borough Council. Marianne was born and raised in Netcong.

Why is it if Marianne is such a good candidate, she couldn't answer any questions at meet the candidate night all she kept saying was i dont know.

I was not at the meeting so I do not know what was said, but I have to think that any new candidate would not have all the answers right away, whereas a sitting board member would be familiar with policy and procedure. A newly elected board member would have to gain experience over time. My point was that I have seen Marianne get things done firsthand and I admire her for that.

If Mrs. Callahan is not successful, I hope that she will run for Council as a write-in. I thought that Netcong was a very republican town. So, I was very disappointed to see that only one Republican, Mrs. Laureys, filed to run for the 2 council seats voted on this year. With all due respect to her, I thought after 20 years she would retire. It is no secret she does not participate much in meetings anymore. It is strange that the Republicans in this town could not find at least one new person with some fresh ideas.

I would say to any candidate who is running should go to a few board meetings and know what is going on.... I dont know is not a good answer when it comes to the future of our Children.

Running Happy Meals and a school budget are 2 VERY different things....and as far as Marianne is concerned...she has kids in the school right now...a NO NO for the school. Our taxes are high enough already and she will only want the best for her kids which means she'll ALWAYS vote for increases. Bad candidates this time around.

I believe being in charge of hundreds of employees and sales of multiple million dollar companies along with a teaching degree would make anyone qualified. You obviously didn't go to meet the candidates night or you would have all the facts. Also, is this a joke about having kids in the school??? I would think it would benefit the children to have a parent on the board.

OK...Todd Morton is a Regional Manager or higher for McDonalds...I can definitely tell you that the budget he oversees is quite a bit higher and more detail oriented than the school budget, so your implication is way off. Ok....If we follow your thinking than no one with children in the school should be on the board which does not seem feasible. What would Marianne do for her kids that the other children in the school would not benefit from? If we, as voters, do not like the budget, vote no.

I can give you a reason why Marianne is such a good candidate. She's a hard working mother that is not afraid to challenge policies that are not always right. How would you expect someone that does not have access to written minutes from the BOE. Even when you go to a meeting the public is not seeing 100%. How can she answer any question accurately without knowing 100% of the facts. If she did answer, people would criticize her for being wrong. I know she is approachable at any given minute, even in ShopRite. Marianne will always give the public the respect that they deserve. If she doesn't know the answer I guarantee she will research the answer and get back to you. If you would like to meet her she's at the school everyday with her children. Give the mom a chance. She will surprise you.

I don't understand your reasoning. It's clear that you don't understand how the business world works. I tip my hat to Mr. Morton for his position with McDonalds. The last time I looked McDonalds was a Fortune 500 Co. Do you realize how hard it is to run a business of that magnitude. I don't care if it's 1 or 20 locations. That's a tough position. It's not about making fries or Happy Meals and if he was at least he has a job to support his family. I was impressed with him at Mon's meeting. I have never heard of him until then.
As far a Mrs. Callahan if you don't have a child in the school how would you know and understand what's really happening. How would you know the teachers, parents,Mrs.B and most important the needs of the children. Trust me I can't afford for my taxes to go up either but I would listen to what they all have to say before I make a judgment.
If you think you can do a better job, please run for any position in your town since your "The Guy from Netcong".

At the meeting Mr. Morton said that he left his teaching job to work for McDonalds becuase it would give his family the opportunity to have his wife stay home with their children.

That was not an option for them with a teacher's salary.

Seems like he may offer the best of a few areas: teaching and school experience, business and budget creation experience and he has a child (2 next year) in the school.

As for Ms. Callahan I wish she could have made more comments about the budget. I did not get to ask her if she attended the board budget meeting. I would have thought the budget would have been available for her to have looked it over before Monday's meeting. However, I do understand that she would not be able to answer some questions with out having already being a serving and trained member of the board. I thought she spoke more than some people on the board now.

While I hope people do vote to pass the budget it is important that everyone who can vote does vote. Elelcted officials need to know that people are watching what they do. If you don't vote you let others choose for you.
