I don't understand why anyone would want to pay a huge bill for ambulance service when we have a dedicated group of volunteers? Yes, insurance MIGHT cover part of the cost, but add the difference to the hospital bills that are sure to follow and then what? My child had an emergency and was taken to the hospital by the squad. They were extremely quick to respond and very professional. I am very grateful for the care they showed my child. And am very grateful I didn't receive a bill.

All of this needs to stop. Unfortunately when someone uses their real name on posts they are opening themselves up to personal attacks against themselves and their families. Not fair, but fact

As a member of the squad I am highly offended and disgusted with everyone’s behavior on this forum. I will be the first to admit that we are not a perfect organization; but we are doing the best we can. The quality of EMT’s and drivers that are actively members on the squad is amazing. We are well aware of the fact that we use mutual aid to answer calls, as we go into other towns to help them in their times of needs. It was horrifying to read the horrible things that people have been posting about my organization; most of these comments are based on ignorance. To publicly degrade and disrespect a volunteer organization is the lowest of lows. I have read all of the comments, and sub comments. It was incredibly easy to figure out who was behind majority of the posts (regardless if they were positive or negative). Sadly, most of the negative comments have come from people of the community that I personally felt I had a good relationship with. As a member I can safely say to you that there is no “selective call answering”. If we have an ambulance crew we go in service regardless of the nature of the call. I understand the frustration some residents have voiced in regards to the differences in response times, however everyone needs to remember that there are many factors effecting response times (examples; traffic, distance to the squad building, waiting for the train to pass, or the simple fact of having to completely stop what you are doing and leave). It was incredibly pleasing to see the support that we have received from most of the commenters, and for that I thank you. Everyone needs to stop take a moment and breathe. We are volunteer; we do this because we love the communities we serve and the residents that live in it. I am almost positive that at 22 I am one of, if not the youngest person posting on this forum, and I am shocked by the immaturity that has been taking place here for weeks. Mr. Grogan, please I have read your concerns (in addition to the town meeting minutes) and want you to know that I hear you, however, as a member of our local fire department I would have liked for you to have stepped up and posted something on this forum stating enough is enough. I would hope that when you started the forum you did not expect it to go this far and for the comments to stoop to this level of low. Please, everyone understand that the ambulance squad needs the support of its residents in the local community. I have also read and saw a lot of confusion on how paid ambulance service works. As a member of the squad that has three paid EMS jobs (two of them hospital based, and one planned like Hopatcong) I am asking anyone that has any questions of how a paid organization would take over and the positives and negatives it will have on the community to contact me and I will answer them the best I can. As a resident of Stanhope I can safely say that it would be detrimental to have a paid organization of any kind come in and take over the two towns. I myself and a proud member of SNALAC, I love every minute of being a volunteer EMT the good, the bad, and the ugly. I would hope that everyone will stop this nonsense. Remember the squad is here only with good intentions to help the residents of Stanhope and Netcong, and for people to question the integrity of the squad and its members is shocking. Furthermore, I have seen comments about my fellow squad members, commenting on us about how we spend our time on and off the squad. My only comment to this is what we do in our on time is our own business, unless you have successfully walked in the shoes of an EMT and been on every call that that specific EMT has been on do not judge them for their coping mechanisms. Thank you to everyone that continually supports the squad. Rebecca

Hey Rebecca12 I just want to take the time to thank you and your fellow squad members for doing the job you do. Like they say you cant please all the people all the time and please dont let one persons negativity sour you on helping others. My family has lived in Stanhope since 63 and do appreciate what you do.

I believe that this has gotten way off target here. I think that we can all agree how valuable the volunteer Ambulance Service is in a small comunity like Netcong or Stanhope. I also think that we can also agree that the members that ride on this Ambulance put their lives on hold each and every time the pager goes off. I commend all the Volunteers. We can finally agree that not every call gets answered by the local squad, but it DOES get answered. Lets stop bashing those that put their lives on the line by helping folks they don't even know, and start showing a little support. Not everyone is cut out to be an EMT, but those that are, certainly have enough stress in their lives without all this CRAP! Lets move on to a more productive topic.....

michael c grogan wrote: emt4life who said anything about an ambulance from denville?and who said anything about them coming to my house? before you respond to anyones comments on here please know what your talking about. Well sir, bikerguy posted a link to the minutes of a council meeting in Netcong where you are quoted as saying that an ambulance from the Denville squad had to come to your house. So I do know what I am talking about. Trust me, I know what I am talking about. I just realized you're a volunteer firefighter in Netcong. I commend you for being a volunteer BUT you should be ashamed of yourself. We need to stick together and support each other. By we I mean all volunteer first responders (police, fire and EMS). How would you like if a citizen complained that your fire department took forever getting to a fire? Or if they showed up and didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground? One thing I learned from my fire department is that if you speak of a problem speak of a solution. And a paid outside EMS agency is not a solution.

You should have seen him at the tricky tray last night. he was carrying baskets back and forth and he was sweating and panting. i thought he was going to go down right on the spot. good thing he didn't need an ambulance, i think there were a few members there that might have looked the other way. its all a matter of time till he needs help.

That is so not true!!! I was at the tricky tray and he did a great job just like all the other volunteers. Why do you have to stoop to such levels. He was not sweating and panting!! Those guys were working hard while you were sitting on your butt having a good time.

Actually, it was supposed to be an event to SUPPORT our town, not to degrade anyone or speak negatively about anyone. A lot of people on this forum need to grow up and think before you speak. Netcong is.a great town, if you dislike it do much, move to another town.
