With class sizes swelling to a whopping 52 per class, do you think it is time to dissolve Weatherly School District? The northern portion can go to Hazleton and the southern portion should go to Panther Valley. It would cost more to bus but overall cheaper in the end.

I think you are delusional. I think that is one of the greatest thing about our school district. Small classes means for better learning environment with a better student:teacher ratio. I graduated from this school and I have friends that I have met whose kids are getting ready to hit the kindergarten age. I highly recommend Weatherly to them. Many have moved into the district or plan on it. I would rather pay higher taxes to keep our own school on my minimum wage job than to send our kids to another school where they are guaranteed to not get, even remotely close to, the education they would receive here! For the record, no I do not have kids and have no intention of having kids. Also, this is my opinion and if you don't like it, tough. Lastly, If you do not like the way this little town is self sufficient and more or less closes itself from the rest of the world, feel free to leave at any time and go to one of the areas that feeds one of those districts. Have a nice day!

What? You rather pay higher taxes than close a school district that services 800 kids a year? I thought this was a conservative site?

Paying taxes for things that work and promote success is not the same as the tax and spend philosophy of the dems, which is throw more money at it and the problem will cure itself.

Kids like those languishing in schools like PV and Hazleton should have the choice of attending successful schools without the constraint of districting. Oh, I forgot - that'll screw up the football schedule. The marketplace will take care of schools that will survive.

The Governor gave vouchers to other districts but we said no!! We are frugal with the money spent that's why your taxes only went up 1 time in last 6 years and we are strong we WILL survive!!

Leave if you dont like this town and its taxes..........Right now we have 50 or so empty homes in this town which are mostly bank owned dumps. If the banks didn't receive so much money from our government, maybe they would be looking to sell these properties at a reasonable price to someone who can fix these places up and further raise the boroughs property values/taxes. Unfortunately they are still basing their prices of these homes from 5 years ago.

Check out other threads people and you will see that Anita is negative about everything. Well negative about everything that isn't about Carbon County Democrats or what those democrats have done. Anita could care less about what is right or wrong. Only the Democrats. Weatherly is doing a great job. Leave it be.

"Anita Beer" sounds similar in modus operandi of the political troll "ImTiredOf_It" with the pro dem stuff. They both are leftists that try to outrage users with there comments. ImTiredOf_It was defending some Coaldale political pedophiles and got called out on it.

One... I have never posted under a different name. What is the fun in that? It is better to be a polarizing figure.

Two... education reform was my attempt at being moderate. Looks like I am a better liberal than moderate.

Three.. realistically... I could see why people would not want to send their kids to HASD. HASD has its issues.

Four.. Gov. Rendell proposed this years ago. Reducing the number of school districts is a great way to save money in the educational system. At some point, small towns like Weatherly and all the towns in Schuylkill County, Lehighton, Palmerton, need to combined (not together but is some way). 500 school districts in PA is just way too many.
