This is bull shit! This has nothing to do with tradition. It is all about money. Let the man get the rest in death that he never got in life. This is coming from a NATIVE AMERICAN

It does not seem like we are getting the full story here. Surely some family member authorized his burial in Pennsylvania.

But how did his body get to that state in the first place if he had never stepped foot in that state? Would the family, upon his death, spoken up at the time of his death? Why did his family not take his body at the time? What state did he die in?

The full story is not being told. It makes no sense to me.

Wasn't that the doing of one of his wives?

I agree w/'From the time you come into Oklahoma, it's Jim Thorpe and Will Rogers," ... but it am curious to know the FULL circumstances behind why he is buried where he is. I wonder about the contract w/that town in Pennsylvania & how iron-clad it may be.

He was the greatest athlete of the 20th Century & we who live in Oklahoma have a RIGHT to be proud.

This will explain how the town "bought" Jim Thorp's remains: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Thorpe

When Thorpe's third wife, Patricia, heard that the small Pennsylvania town of Mauch Chunk was desperately seeking to attract business, she struck a deal with the town. Mauch Chunk bought Thorpe's remains, erected a monument to him, and renamed the town in his honor (see Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania), despite the fact that Thorpe had never set foot there.[51] Thorpe's monument, featuring the quote from Gustav V, can still be found there.

My Great Uncle built the Thorpe house in Yale. I hope they get him back where he belongs.

Again today I say leave him alone. For goodness sake, he has a town named after him. A deal was made and honored. Now, long after the fact, "someone" wants to change it. I don't care who they are, they have no right to do so.

Want him? Was there someplace else he was considering "going" when the controversy started?

Dullard.

He lost his medals because he played some "pro" football. BTW: That was/is not an Olympic sport, so it seems kind of moronic that they would take them away.

If he had competed professionally @ track or some Olympic sport I could see, but pro football?

Nonsense. Probably some racism, too.

From when I was real young growing up in "Jim Thorpe", all the old timers used to say that there never was a body there. I heard everything from dog bones to a railroad tie. Who nows?
It'd be interesting to see?

One summer night me, Spooky Williams, and Slippery Meckes broke open Jim Thorpe's tomb. We swapped his body with Dodie's then we sold that drunk Indian's bones on the black market. I gave Slippery and Spooky a few creekers and a couple packs of cowboy killers then I used the rest of the money for a down payment on sweet van.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Cancer

Be careful today Cancer, because your emotions could cloud certain issues as they often to and leave you feeling confused. You should be especially wary of believing what you want to believe, rather than believing the evidence in front of your eyes. It's easy to kid yourself now about someone's motives or reliability, even if deep down you know that you're telling yourself a load of old twaddle.
