Dear Editor and Voters:
The Court of Appeals doesn’t get much attention, though litigants who believe the circuit court erred must look to this court to find errors and to figure out a remedy for errors. As a result many cases land in this particular court, with only a small percentage moving to the WI Supreme Court. The election results on Tuesday, April 6, will produce a 6 year hiring decision, so best to choose with care.
I support Leineweber, because he brings to the Court of Appeals considerable experience with state courts, he knows the trials, challenges and tribulations of the many judges who are sole judges in rural counties. District IV’s panel of judges, reviews cases coming from 24 counties -- 23 of them rural, plus Dane County. Though judges elected to this panel rarely have come from outside of Madison, here the voters have opportunity to pick a highly qualified, truly independent candidate who is not from Madison. However, rural voter interest must be spectacular, to outdo Madison’s influence, which in the primary was 31% of the vote.
While Leineweber and his opponent both served the state as prosecutors, the balance of Leineweber’s opponent’s experience is in the federal court system – a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Throughout his legal career, Leineweber’s 34 years of experience has been with state law and in state courts, where Leineweber’s opponent has never been a judge.
I am proud to join Judges Ramona Gonzalez, Guy Dutcher, and John Hoffman, and the 47 other Wisconsin judge’s who are endorsing Judge Leineweber.
Luther Olsen, 14th Senate District
