It does not matter that he got scared and let her go quickly - he should not be rewarded with a lighter sentence for that.

If he wanted a lighter sentence, he should've driven past the girl on her bike and headed to a hospital for mental evaluation. Instead he will now serve 20 years away from his wife and child, but if he's lucky some big guy will make him his boyfriend ;)

Please tell me what the internet has to do with any of this? Scum like this guy have been snatching little girls for ages, way before the internet. Just more scare mongering from people looking to push their agenda. How about focusing on the real issue of lowlifes actually attacking children instead of wasting time on some imaginary boogeyman in the form of the internet.
Liking the kiddie porn huh Rob?

Wow, Rob, you really need to educate yourself on this subject. The Internet is the first way most pedafiles make contact with their victims. I cannot believe you don't know this! The boogeyman is anything BUT imaginary.

EXACTLY. I hope they thoroughly interview all young girls from the past and present that this monster may have abused.
I highly doubt that this was the first time. Maybe he had to resort to a poor little girl on her bike because his other victims grew up or moved.
MAKES NO SENSE

what makes no sense is that for murder people plead down to manslaughter, they get sentenced to 10 years, they are parolled after 3.

so they are serving 3 years for murder.

i'm not defending this guy's actions. rather i'm pointing out that our CJ system makes NO SENSE. if we want him to do 20, fine. but then dont give a murderer 3.

And as far as him getting a harder sentence then those that plea on murder, I would bet that the DA offered him a plea deal and he didn't take it.

He rolled the dice that he would be found innocent or sentenced to a shorter term and lost

People get less time for murder. 20 years is too much for what he did and given his prior history.
This guy is a monster in waiting. The longer he is off the street the better.

You must be a relative or a criminal/pedafile yourself to even think like that.

I think this guy should consider him self very lucky to get the max of 20 years. By the grace of god he had a moment of clarity and decided not to hurt that poor little girl but he in no way should get any lieniency for letting her go. His reward for doing the right thing will be that he can spend 20 years trying to get some help with a clear conscience rather than a life of reliving the memory of the most horrible mistake he could have made.

If he did get 18 plus 5 yrs parole, I think that's fair. It's still a huge sentence, with strict supervision after, but he did get some *token* of time off for having released her unharmed.

Actually its 17 yrs.. the one year term runs concurrent. With good behavior and time served it'll be about 13, plus parole and the sex offender tag for the rest of his life.(even though he didnt perform a sex act on her, state law allows kidnapping a girl of that age qualifies fir such registration.

Thanks Newsday for your prompt reporting on the matter.

Maybe he didn't think the bike she was riding was good enough for her so he grabbed her off the bike and was taking her to get a new one.
